i am not sure if they have dorpped me or not. i am seeing the classes in econnect under my schedule, but i dun see them on ecampus. i did receive an email from kanora saying that we had to pay the same day that they registered us. thank you for reminding me of printing the receipt, i totally forgot about it.

Mine aren't on ecampus either. I think they were at one time, then they took it off the next day.

What clinical do you have? I'm Tuesday with Tunnell. Not my first choice. In fact, it was my very last choice!

Specializes in ICU.

I have a questions... At the orientation they showed us the CD that has the books so we can put it in our laptops, I remeber seeing a DVD case, but when I bought the books (at the library by Parkland hospital ) and looked for the cd i did not find it. I just want to ask if you got it in a DVD case or in a book, I have opened almost all my books and I only found cd's for the virtual clinical, strategies, basic intermediate and advances skills, etc. Please let me know if you got yours and what it looks like!

Thanks! See you all in 5 days!:yeah:

I haven't really looked through my book yet. I was wondering about it too, but I thought I'd wait until orientation. The book guy will be at the orientation one day to talk about the books and putting them on the computer. I imagine our questions will be answered...at least we hope so. He's very nice and if something was left out of your pack, he'll get it to you no problem. I had something left out of mine and he went out of his way to get it for me.

Yeah we have 3 whole days of orientation next week, someone's bound to explain it then !!

Specializes in ICU.

thanks! omg, I was so nervous! I'll see you all on tuesday! Can't believe we are really starting nursing school! It is so exciting!!!

Hi there. 3rd sem NLC person here. In reference to the DVD, you HAVE to buy the book box from the NLC/ECC bookstore. It cannot be purchased anywhere else. I bought the box for 1st semester and experienced the same sticker shock (I think it was around 700-ish). From what I hear, they've made a lot of changes to the boxes. Our 1st sem box had a lot of study guides and clinical companions that no one had time to use. In my opinion, i'm glad I bought the box because i still use them on a regular basis. If you buy the box, it's nice to have them on your laptop, the actual hard copies (these suckers are heavy), and on the Evolve website. The website is something that they added that is new. you can access anybook on your dvd from a computer with internet access (i do this @ work all the time). Iggy is used in 1st and 3rd. Potter and Perry (fundamentals) is one that I still reference frequently when I'm having a brain fart.

Anyhoo: Good luck, get lots of sleeping and relaxing done, and don't forget to be flexible for the first few weeks. We had lots of last minute schedule changes (ie hospital orientation dates and times).

Specializes in Telemetry.

I too had Tunnell for first semester; don't panic! You will be better prepared to continue through your following three semesters after having her; I promise you. Seriously, care plans are easy once you learn from Tunnell. And yes, while I have both heard many frightening stories and even witnessed a few incidents between Tunnell and her students, she really isn't that bad. I have a theory on her that served me quite well. . . She will inform you, early on, that it's not the students with questions that she worries about, but those with none. I get the impression that she really just wants her students to open up, both personally and professionally. I was completely honest with her at all times. When I had a question, I saught her out. If I had a problem, I asked for her help. I wasn't afraid of looking foolish in front of her. Also, just do the work like she requests. If something is due on a certain day, have it ready to turn in on time! It was always the student who wasn't doing the work that was on her hit list. Seriously, I absolutely adored Tunnell; I learned so much from her, and she was very kind to me. I'll add one, final note. . . Don't be afraid of getting in the hospital and taking the hard cases, and when you can take two patients, take two and keep two. Don't ever go back down to one. There were those, in my class, that only took two patients when absolutely required and then opted to go right back down to one; they were the ones that Tunnell hovered over.

Hello to all 1st semester ECC/NCL students:

I will be at NLC, does anyone know where the orientation will be held tomorrow (Jan 20th)?

Thanks!!

I was told it was at the performance hall in the main building of El Centro. It would have been nice to have some info sent to us. The way I found out was at the lunch the SNA had on Friday. There were only 8 or 10 people there, so I imagine there are going to be a lot of lost students tomorrow!

So How is everone studying for the first exam? wht exactly do we need to focus on??

I listened to the lecture online and took notes on the powerpoint. Then I outlined the objectives (the outline like we had for our 1204 modules). Then I'm going to focus on the main things that were on both the outline and powerpoint. Not sure if I'm on the right track or not. We haven't even had our first lecture yet because of the weather last week.
