El Centro/NLC ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hi everyone!I

I wanted to make a group for all the people applying for the Spring 2020 program. Has anyone taken the HESI yet? If so, are there better tools than the book?

Any future murses (male nurses) here ?

Hey you guys! Sometimes I absolutely just HATE Dallas County colleges. So a few years ago, to get students to move to BIOL 2401, they waived the requirement of BIOL 1406 in order for you to take it. I retook BIOL 2401 last year and failed it. Instead of taking the C i had initially in Fall 2015, they calculated my D in and I either had to take BIOL 1406 or CLEP out. I decided not to take my chances and signed up for BIOL 1406 for summer I. But because of that, that forces me to retake BIOL 2401 in summer II and the deadline is July 15 so unless ECC on some miracle does a late application request (they’ve done this before), I’m out on applying for Spring 2020 at ECC and NLC. So I’m just going to take my chances with MVC and Brookhaven. However, I will be watching this forum post for updates. Good luck to everyone and Spring 2020 we got this you guys!!! ?

Good luck!! BIOL 1406 I found was more difficult than BIOL 2401! I started with a class of 30 and only 6 of us finished the course.

Thank you! I’m going to need it cause this class is fast! But if I can squeak out a C, I’ll be okay because 2401 is where I really need a B or higher.

I thought 1406 was harder too. I almost gave up. Glad I didn’t YouTube and study guides saved me.

Hey guys! I was in the Brookhaven Nursing Program fall 2018, sadly the Hesi exit exam at the end of the first semester got my final grade down to a 75.94 and you need a 76 to move on to the next semester (they don't round up for any reason). I will be applying for El Centro spring 2020 and also TWU spring 2020. It sucks, but it was for the best because my best friend said Brookhaven is very disorganized and changed their schedule 5 different times and teachers aren't working together. I was going to reapply there until i heard that and she said its not worth it. Disappointing. I was wondering though, what points are good for El Centro for acceptance? Thanks!

Also, what is the Personality Profile and Learning Styles section? I did not take this on the Hesi a2. How do I take that?

Hello @SKS0426! I also was going to apply to Brookhaven's program for Spring 2020 but now that I hear you saying this, it gives me much to think about. The lowest points to get accepted into El Centro for Fall 2019 was 28 points I believe. But of course you want to aim higher than that-closer to 30 or more. What did you like and not like about the program? Did you find it very difficult?

I never understood the purpose of taking on the HESI but I just made sure to do it the last time I took earlier this year. Maybe to see what kind of student you would be??? Not sure.

I enjoyed the program a lot. The only thing was that the lecture teachers were being very immature and pretty much had a competition on which class had the higher test scores. Sadly, this resulted in my teacher pretty much giving us some answers to the tests, which didn’t help some of us for the end of semester hesi. I felt like I didn’t learn enough in the lecture portion. My friend is still in the program and she said it has gotten worse since I left. Teachers get mad at each other and are unorganized, She said if she wasn’t almost done she would have gotten out. She said there are cliques and very high drama (but that might be anywhere with a lot of women around haha). But again, everyone might have a different opinion. The skills and clinical part of it were very fun and rewarding. I got A’s in both those classes. I can’t wait to do that again! And hopefully I’ll have a better experience in the lecture part of it

And I am going to talk to El Centro on Monday or Tuesday and see if I need to take that part of the entrance hesi, I took something similar at Brookhaven, idk if they will count that. I’d rather not take the hesi all over again. I will be applying with 35 points. I also was apart of the Texas Tech concurrent enrollment program at Brookhaven so maybe I can continue that through El Centro.

Our class at Brookhaven started out at 80 and the first semester 26 didn’t make it. More didn’t make it the second semester as well.

Yes, El Centro is also part of the Texas Tech articulation program. I plan to enroll in this program as well. Also, do you happen to know what the other core requirement from the Texas Core curriculum 090 section is required? Texas Tech website states they require 6 credit hours, from the 090 section, which means 2 classes. Do both classes have to be from this Texas common core section, or can you substitute an elective for it?
