El Centro Fall 2015

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello All!! I know it is VERY early to be thinking about this but the process to get in takes quite a long time. I wanted to make a thread to help us all get through the application process together, share problems, feelings, etc. :)

You will have 5 classes total. 1271 is just lab where you will do checkoffs and learn clinical stuff. 1170 &1171 are interchangeable classes. Meaning one week you will have 1170 and the following week you will have 1171. Both of them are easy lecture classes. And 1470 is the big lecture class where you will be test the most and this course is every wednesday. And 1161 is clinical.

Thank you so much.. It is very clear now. Good Job!!

Hello everyone! Just a reminder that an El Centro Nursing Fall 2015 has been set up (since different schools will have different things going on), the link is below. If you cannot join for some reason, let me know! Congrats to everyone again!

For those who have already gone through a semester- Are we allowed to buy our books used, or some ebooks some text, etc? I really don't want to buy the whole big package... But then again, I do because I want to have everything!

i owuuld like to know the answer to your questions as well

I am going into my 3rd semester at El Centro and HONESTLY I wouldn't buy the books from the school. Look at how much all the books cost you. I am going into third and have only used my Pedi, OB, Med Surg, Fundamentals, Giddens Concepts, Varicolis, Dosage Calculations, patho book, Pharmacology, and Case Study book so far.

I would suggest buying used books. Or even an older edition. First semester you might get a chapter reading list;however, moving on you will not. All we get is the concept and we have to find what to read in each book.

Sometimes the ebooks come in handy with that but regular books work fine because you can just go to the table of contents in the back and find what you need.

You will need some codes for stuff online like SIM Chart, and skills videos. Those you can purchase individually. All the stuff I purchased (ebooks and print version) I haven't even used 25% of it.

I know plenty of people who have bought an older edition, or a used book, and then purchased the codes as they need them.

I have a few of the books in PDF version that I can sell for cheap for who wants them; I have the Fundamentals by Potter/Perry, OB by Lowdermilk (Maternity), Med-Surg by Lewis, Patho by Huether, Pharmacology by Lehne, and NCLEC by Saunders.

So just figure out what it costs you to purchase books vs the whole darn package. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't buy it from the school( or rather company who up sells it).

Will we get a list of the exact books we need at orientation? If so then maybe I'd leave that day without purchasing the package. I'm so scared to not purchase the "new" package because of any lab materials we would need that may not be available used, and also all the codes and books etc. Seems like buying all the codes (not knowing at first what you need) would add up quickly anyways.

You will get a list of books. It will be the two package options. Those include all the codes and all the books for school.

The lab package is separate and you can't buy those things used. You will get everything you need in the skills pack for the 4 years except a stethoscope and maybe a few small things.

You don't have to purchase the books at orientation. You have time to chose what you want to do. I have only used a few of the codes stuff. Like the sim chart for skills and the skills videos.

Congrats on everyone who got accepted.

I just got accepted! :-)

I also just got my acceptance email for the North lake campus. Please can you add me to the north lake Facebook page. [email protected] and I also sent a request. Whoever that is coordinating the page should please add me.
