El Centro Fall 2015

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello All!! I know it is VERY early to be thinking about this but the process to get in takes quite a long time. I wanted to make a thread to help us all get through the application process together, share problems, feelings, etc. :)

Is anyone oh here going for the bridge program? When is your orientation day? Thanks! :-)

Thank you for the information. What is your take on the concept-based learning? Pros/Cons?

You will get a list of books. It will be the two package options. Those include all the codes and all the books for school.

The lab package is separate and you can't buy those things used. You will get everything you need in the skills pack for the 4 years except a stethoscope and maybe a few small things.

You don't have to purchase the books at orientation. You have time to chose what you want to do. I have only used a few of the codes stuff. Like the sim chart for skills and the skills videos.

Sorry.

Thank you for the information. What is your take on the concept-based learning? Pros/Cons?

I just received my acceptance as an alternate. Anyone else?

I have mixed feelings about this as I was already accepted into Brookhavens Nursing program for Fall 2015 and have begun the process with them as faras scrubs go, fingerprints, background check etc.

My first choice was always El centro and it is so much closer to me, but now I have prepped for Brookhaven and gotten used to the idea of being finished with nursing school next December.

I am weighing my options and trying to figure if I can afford to waste the hundreds of dollars I have spent towards Brookhaven.

I have requested to join the facebook page in hopes to communicate with some of you!

Hey girl I'm the admin on Facebook for the el centro/north lake 2015 fall page. I haven't gotten your request but if you are having trouble. Email me at [email protected]

i honestly think Brookhaven is an excellent choice and I would stick with that as you will be finished a lot quicker and have already invested time and money. But please add us so you see our page too.

Me too, I didn't get in. But we still have hope of getting in if anyone declines.

how do you get the cumulative score for the hesi? @luchy @kelly4isabel?

the cumulative score for HESI is the total on all four sections of the HESI.

I'm interested in the PDF versions that you have. Email me please [email protected]

Hello ALL!! Congratulations on everyone who got in, and those who didn't don't lose HOPE! I am finishing my 2nd semester right now and not too long ago I was in your shoes. I had someone in my class who got a phone call at 9 pm the night before orientation for 1st semester and got told to attend because he got in! So people will turn down spots and the school will call/email/send a letter to you.

Firstly, take this summer and ENJOY IT! :)

Secondly, El Centro is very unorganized with a lot of last minute things to do. Keep in mind with that and let your jobs etc know what to expect soon.

It is doable, hard and very stressful but doable. The professor who was teaching first semester when I started is leaving unfortunately. So I cannot tell you anything about your lecture teacher.

Your schedule will be as follows: Lecture once a week,PNC (professionalism class) once a week, Skills 2 times a week, and of course clinical.

If you have the option chose the VA hospital for clinical, you will actually get experience there ( I didn't chose this blindly), the other ones are all nursing homes!

If anyone has any questions feel free to contact me!

Also, DO NOT BUY THE STUPID book package from the school! Rather buy the ebooks only or buy your own used books! I made the mistake of buying ebook and print and I barely use the print.

I have some books in PDF format if anyone wants to purchase for cheap. You can put this on your laptop, tablet, even open it on your phone.

Good luck guys and be prepared to work hard! You all can do this!!!!! :)

Yes the HESI test exactly like the book. Other than the reading portion. Those are totally different. However I just took mine yesterday. If u religiously study that book U will quiet well. I however waited till the last week to bust my butt on studying and I got an 82. :/ it didn't help that I took all of the sections. Like chemistry and biology. It seems like non of the colleges need those. :/ better safe than sorry.

Anyone know exactly what books are needed for 1st semester? I have been provided with the pdf/online version but I'm a straight book in hand kind of gal. I love highlighting and having a spine copy which helps me personally. i would like to start purchasing whatever is needed one semester at a time.

Does any know the points required to apply.. I think its 18 or 19, but what did most people have, as far as their GPA, points, the HPRS classes y'all have taken.

Very nervous. my GPA is a 3.5 bc I have a B in ENGL and in PYSC. I think my points that i have are right at 18 bc i have taken all of the support courses, plus a lot of the classes towards my bachelors, but non of the HPRS classes.

**Can someone give me an idea of what el centro is looking at? And if you got expected, how many points did y'all have. Feeling nervous bc i took my HESI at TVCC in kaufman, and come to find out MVCC doesn't except the hesi from there. SO it looks like my only option is EL centro/Northlake.

**Should I retake my ENGL and PYSC to get a A, ORRR should i take more bachelors classes to get a bit further???
