effect of the US economy

i keep seeing on the news the downward trend of the US economy, or if i misinterpreted that, then the bankruptcy of some of America's largest investment banks/ insurance companies, etc..(Lehman Bros., AIG, etc)

anyway, i would just like to know what impact this has on the visas, if any?

will this also affect the availability of health care jobs in the US?

thanks.

Same here in PA - my health system (huge) made a few million last year instead of a few HUNDRED million. We have cut all overtime, and laid off 2 people in our clinical program. They were even talking about laying off physicians who are not very $$ productive - that would be the first time ever in our system that docs were made redundant.

I am thinking, If I got laid off, sold my house and took my savings and moved someplace (like the Phillipines )if dollar doesn't devalue more; I could maintain a decent quality of life and perhaps get a job. I don't think the Phillipines would allow me to work as a RN even though I am qualified but I could volunteer.

Perhaps if an influx of qualified RNs from the USA move in and lobby we could get the right to practice. Perhaps my government could make special arrangements so I could work as a Graduate nurse for 12 months while I take the CRNE.

Any tips on getting a VISA to move to get permanent status. I have great education and great attitude. I do trust in God.

CRNE is Canada do you mean NLE?

I agree that it's harder for new RN or less experienced RN to find a job. So I think it is safe to conclude that it will be more difficult for foreign RN much more for those RN who is just barely starting the immigration process to come here in the US.

I am afraid for my former co-workers who are working under the HB visa, because it will be more difficult for them to have a green card. And these nurses are under working visa since last year.

US economy now is making us double think on what kind of nursing job to take, unlike a couple of years back that nurses can always choose what kind of work he wants because "nursing shortage".

with your savings and money in the bank, you can absolutely live a decent, comfortable life in the philippines even without a job. or you can have a special working permit if you're willing to share your special nursing skills. SLMC - GC (for example) will be opening soon and i'm sure they can use a highly skilled foreign trained nursing professional to work with the local graduates. it's an idea you can pick on, you can bring your expertise to the country for a fee. SLMC - GC is geared towards medical tourism and with your help they can level up the nursing care to a much higher standard, US grade standard if you wish. think about it?

the country has imported professional experts in other fields, why not in nursing? it's a question of how good are you? not a visa problem.

this serious stuff, been watching the news whole day and it's getting scarier by the moment. Wamu was sold to JP Morgan Chase awhile ago. It means a lot of jobs will be lost again...the largest savings and loans bank in the world, sold. scary.

Quit watching the news. All they ever report is doom and gloom and they always over dramatize everything.

ha ha ha, you're right. I'ts hard not to watch when your on-call for 48 hours, and waiting to be called...:chuckle

You have to follow the news, through a set of circumstances, I cashed in one of my 403B...it was AIG and if I didn't cash it in I would have lost 90% of that account.

Also to be an educated voter you have to listen.....Also you have to listen how health care will be effected. Everyone I talk to the hospital census is down, less patients equal less nurses needed.

Also Medicare is level funding, they won't give tax breaks to hospitals for recruitement of nurses, so I forsee the days of Importing nurses not happening. Americans are afraid, they will not support US jobs being given away, sorry, that is what I hear.
