Edison State College Applying for 2010

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello,

I would like to know who is applying to the Edison State College(lee or collier campus) Fall or Summer program for 2010.

And has anyone taken the HESI exam? if so, how was it.

Also, I would like to know how competitive the Basic program is, and any other information will be appreciated.

Again this for the BASIC Nursing program, Thanks :D

Ah- Thank you so much for your replies. As you know- any bit of info shared can change your game plan. I am grateful. In the beginning, I was going to try to finish all pre-reqs in 3 semesters with A's, but i just dont have the time to devote to that right now and need to just accept that i have to take it a slower pace or it could all be for nothing!

I agree, take your time to make sure you do well in your classes. Don't rush the process or it could end up being all for nothing. I got accepted into the Lee day program for this fall with a 3.69 GPA, 92% on the Hesi and 6 classes completed. I had A's in 4 classes and B's in 2. I also missed the night program by 2 points...it is the hardest one to get into. This year the cutoff for the evening program was 90 points, they said last year it was 86 so the competition keeps getting tougher and tougher! At the orientation I attended a few months ago they said the number of seats were reduced due to difficulty competing for clinical seats at the local hospitals (because a number of other schools need clinical spots as well). I'm not sure if this is the sole reason or if they will increase the number of seats again in coming years. Just focus on what you have to do now and do your absolute best! Always remember it is a fierce competition to get accepted! You'll start looking at many of your classmates as you complete your general ed/pre-req courses as competition. Good luck to you!

each year there's more and more applicants so they cut-off score keeps getting higher. so its absolutely crucial to get ALL A's and above an 91 on the hesi. try to get all your pre-reqs but totally not necassary, get about 6 or 7. The cut-off score for collier was an 88!!! so if you want to get into lee campus anything less than an 90 won't get you in. don't worry if it takes you longer as long you get good grades. GOOD LUCK!!!

Went to orientation today- 400 applicants last session. Nutrition is a must now, as well. Reccomended not applying until all 9 pre-req's done.

Is taking AP1 for first mini session and AP2 for second mini session too much?!

I just finished A&P 2 full summer session. I cannot imagine doing them in a mini session, especially when you understand that GPA also figures big in being admitted. As you know, GPA, number of prerequisites, and of course HESI all need to be solid. The program now is not competitive, it is SUPER competitive. If I had a very good GPA and a high HESI score, I would apply even if I 'only' had 6 or 7 or the prerequisites. I guess what I am saying is, take each course seriously and get a high GPA and study your butt off for the HESI, don't try to cram it all in. If you try to get everything done fast at the expense of grades, all you work might be for naught. My 2 cents. I am starting the program in a couple weeks.

Good Luck

Thanks for your reply! The only reason I am remotely considering all of this is because of the June 30 deadline. Summer A ends the 21st. I doubt if you are still finishing up a class or two during the deadline if it even counts? Otherwise, i could do a full semester.

Stress.

And it hasnt even started yet.

I did eng comp and Human growth & Dev in this summer's 'A' session. THAT was very do-able. And yes, they were finished in time for June 30. I was also taking the A&P but it was full session. Any class not completed by application deadline is not counted.

I applied to the program with 88 points this year and got in to the Collier program. I didn't have all my classes done. I still have to take Anatomy 2, Microbiology, Human Growth and Dev., and Nutrition now. I had a 92 on my HESI and my GPA for my pre-req's that I have done is 3.84. It is possible to get into the program without having all the classes done, I heard the cutoff for Lee campus was 88 points too. However, I wouldn't exactly recommend it. Besides having to worry about the nursing classes, I have to figure out when I should take these other classes too, without overwhelming myself so I will do good in my nursing core classes. Stressful. I wish I would have had them all done, but I decided to jump the gun on applying. I also imagine it will just get more competitive each year. I'm super excited, but I am just not going to have my summers off the whole time I'm in the program. That's ok with me though! I can't wait to be a nurse! :D

Personally, i think you can do anatomy 1 and 2 both in mini sessions. I did anatomy 2 in summer A and to me, it was much easier than taking it in a whole semester. You dont have to stretch out the material. You learn something on a monday and tuesday and end up taking the test on wednesday. Everything is fresh in your mind and you dont have to study 3 chapters at a time. If you can stay focused then i say go for it. It was fun, and easy.

Hello Guys, I am in my second semester at Edison and I totally love it. I made it for the summer program, I did all my pre-requisites + nutrition in 3 semesters with a 3.9 GPA but my hesi was only 86 and I still passed.I recommend to apply in the summer term because are less applicants compared to the fall term. Try to do your best in every class and in the Hesi test which is not that hard (just basic questions), if you follow and cram the hesi elsevier review book plus the basics in biology and A&P you will be fine; math is pretty simple just remember that you can't use scratch paper only a calculator.

I hope these will be helpful.

Its good to hear that there's hope in applying with a majority of pre-req's done and not all.

They are heavily diverting applicants to LPN program so hopefully that will ease the flooding of applicants this next year (good for me, I hope!)

I plan on taking the following route and If you could give me a little feedback I would appreciate it:

I am currently taking Bio/Bio lab, Intermediate Algebra, Human Growth and English Comp.

During Spring I hope to take AP1 (really looking forward to this class), Statistics or Algebra (going back and forth-- heard Stat may be the way to go), microbiology, nutrition and psychology, leaving only Summer A before deadline for Fall to take either both AP2 and/or humanities. At least I can apply if all goes well with 8 of my pre-req's completed--if i can find time to study for the HESI.

Do you think I'm packing in too much at too quick a pace? I also work at my leisure, which is to my benefit for time restrictions, and have four children.

Thanks!
