Edison State College Applying for 2010

Published

Hello,

I would like to know who is applying to the Edison State College(lee or collier campus) Fall or Summer program for 2010.

And has anyone taken the HESI exam? if so, how was it.

Also, I would like to know how competitive the Basic program is, and any other information will be appreciated.

Again this for the BASIC Nursing program, Thanks :D

SRN,

I am currently in my second semester at the Collier campus and loving it! I started my pre-reqs in Jan of 2009 and it took me 4 semesters to complete them. I already have a BA in Elementary Ed so I had my humanities and Eng Comp complete. I have 4 kids also...ages 15, 10, 8 and 4. The plan that you have for Spring seems like a lot  for anyone, let alone someone with a large family. Micro and AP 1 are very intense classes that cover an immense amount of material. Stats is another time consuming class. I don't know about you, but math is not my strong suit! I'm sure you are anxious to get the pre-reqs out of the way, but I think you would be wise to drop one of those major classes that you have planned for Spring. I took Micro in a full summer session along with Stats in Summer A and those 2 with nothing else was doable, but time intensive. You want to get the best grades possible to keep your gpa competitive. Good luck with whatever you decide!!:)

Math is not my strong suit, either, but I have taken AP before, (cant transfer my credit) so I just need to get it out of the way.:nurse:

Hi,

I'm interested in getting into the Nursing Program at Edison. Could you tell me the different class schedules and times and also a list of the prerequisites. I also have two kids and I need to make sure that I can work with it before investing more time in getting in.

Thanks;)

You can find all this and more at the edison.edu website. Click on academic programs and then nursing. The prerequisites can be taken at your leisure but once you are accepted to the nursing program you follow a set schedule of classes for each of the 5 semesters. Hope this helps! :) I'd be happy to answer any other ?'s that you may have...I am in my third semester at the Collier campus.

Hi. First, I would like you to know there are many people in NS at Edison that have kids and jobs. As I am sure you know, it takes a serious commitment to pull it off successfully.

As far a schedules go, I can tell you your first semester you will have only a single day of classes. The second and following semesters, you will have classes (or clinical) 4 days a week. Still, you may be able to schedule some of those days so you may be on only in the mornings, or afternoons. The school realizes may students work and try to group classes accordingly. Check the web site for lists of courses and pre-reqs Edison State College - Nursing Program. Admission into the program is very competitive and is based on a point system. Points are accrued based on the number of pre and co requisites taken, the GPA in those courses, and a score on an entrance exam called the HESI. I strongly encourage you to read on their web site, and visit the nursing office for more answers, they are helpful people.

In any event, good luck to you.

Thanks!

Do you go mornings or evenings? From what time to what time? Also, where can I get the Hesi study guide? Was it hard? I know, so many questions! lol

Currently, I have one full day of classes, one clinical day from 6:30AM to 1:30PM, and two lab days in the mornings. However, this schedule is not fixed, and it changes from semester to semester. You can get the Hesi study guide at the college bookstore. Hard? not if you studied for it! LOL. Yes, it was hard in that you need to score well to have a chance to be accepted. Make an appointment to see someone in the nursing department, it's worth the time.

Anyone apply for the Summer program for 2011 for Edison State College? I would like to know if you have.

Specializes in CVICU.

yeah I am, this isn't my first time applying. I applied last fall and didn't get in, i had taken the hesi on June 30 one day before the deadline i recieved and 89 but unfortunately that wasn't enough. Does anybody know if they still accept that score for this summer(2011) even though that was last year's score? or do i have to take it again? please respond ASAP thank you :)

When I took it the the HESI was good for two years. Not sure if that has changed or not. Contact someone in the nursing department, they will be able to tell you for sure.

The test score is still good for 2 years, but if you ever want to do better you can.

I believe the score is good for 2 years. You might take note that they added another co-requisite, Nutrition. Therefore, the admission scoring system changed slightly. I was told that the HESI is now 40% of the point system, and pre & co requisites (and their scores) are 60%. Check with the office for the straight poop.
