Eclipes Blackout Curtians

Published

I am a new RN so of course that means I will be a "NOC'er". I did NOCs during a extra curricular preceptorship so I already know how hard it is for me to sleep in the day time. What do you use to keep your room dark in the daytime? Has anyone used Eclipse Black Out Curtains? The video on the Bed Bath and Beyond website seems pretty convincing but they do not show what it looks like in a room with the lights off and the curtains drawn. I need something as dark as they make them!

I got curtains online from JC Penny's that worked great. The ones I got from Bed Bath and Beyond (yes, Eclipse, I just checked) did NOT block all the light. The ones from Pennys do, except for a rim of light at the top where the curtain rod is. I solved that by having pull down shades inside the window frame. I like my bedroom totally black.

do you know the brand of the JCPenny ones?

For anyone that sews, I believe you can buy black-out lining and use it to back any curtains/drapes.

I just used a heavy quilt over my blinds when I was sleeping during the day. A white noise machine and no phone in the bedroom helped me sleep pretty good when I was working nights.

I think I have them. I got mine on clearance at Lowes. I spent $60 but now instead of sleeping 4 hr, I sleep 5-6 along with 1 tylenol PM. They are great! I was off this weekend and slept to 11am this morning. I try not to pull them together on the weekend because it tricks me into sleeping really late. Try them and keep the reciept. You can take them back if they don't work.

Why tylenol PM instead of just benadryl?

I think I have those; mine are from BB&B. A little light comes in from the sides but other than that, nothing! I have normal curtains over them because they're not the most stylish things. With those, an air purifier, and melatonin, I'm good!

I've always just worn a black sleep mask----but you may not like this, and I've talked to MANY peeps who do NOT

like having the mask over their eyes.....OMG, it is my LIFESAVER!!!:yeah:

-and also, here are some other "tricks"....

Use a FAN or noise machine for "white noise"....this realllllllllllllllllly helps me! Yesterday I was snoooozing so soundly,

then we had a VERY quick power surge, my fan stopped, and I woke up IMMEDIATELY!! I do NOT think I could sleep

without it now!!

2) IF you still have a landline (we still do)....disconnect it!! Keep your CELL by your bed and tell your loved ones to

ONLY call if it's an EMERGENCY!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot tell you how many people have told me their landline rings ALL

DAY long, and of COURSE, it's usually solicitors!!!!!!!! Turn that ringer OFF!!!!!!!!

Of course, I also know MANY

people whose family/ friends think nothing of calling them all day long, and then acting like since they work at NIGHT,

it doesn't count........:angryfire ...."why are you ASLEEP? It's NOON!"

..."ummmm...........I work NIGHTS, remember???"

OHhhh, thank goodness I've never known anyone like that!!! :angryfire

I once worked with a nurse whose husband would call her at like 11 am, and accuse her of being LAZY!!!!

OMG, she worked ALL night-----then took their children to school, and now she's trying to SLEEP.........

is that OKAYYY!!??? :angryfire (Sheessh, HOW do people put up with spouses like that!!??)

Sorry, got off on a tangent here..............I just feel bad for people who HAVE to work nights for whatever

reason, but they CANNOT sleep for reasons like a non-supportive spouse.....(I'll bet that mean hubby

liked her paychecks, though!) :smokin:

My fiance used to work nights and he had those curtains from Pennys. That, coupled with dark painted walls in his bedroom, kept it pretty dark and he was able to sleep a full 8 hours.

do you know the brand of the JCPenny ones?

I think they were by "best home fashion" and the name on the package was just "BLACKout" When I googled best home fashion blackout I came up with hits, and I think that this... http://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Insulated-Blackout-Curtain-Set-BLACK/dp/B001A63XTS is the right product.

Hope that helps!
