how early did you start practicing NCLEX questions?

Published

hi everyone I am a new nursing student and bought a few of the Saunders and Kaplan books which I've seen recommended here.

I found the sections on test taking strategies useful especially since our instructors write their exams in that style, but most of the other material is just way over my head since I'm a new student. The only sections I can sort of practice now are Ethics and Cultural competence since they don't really require as much nursing specific knowledge.

I'd love to know from your experience when is a good time to start practicing those NCLEX questions, or if you found a piecemeal plan that worked well for you?

I'm getting ready to start my final semester. I just started studying a few weeks ago.

As you pointed out, it can be hard to understand at first......I started using the review books (saunders mostly) during my second year when it was more relevant. I would usually just read all the chapters in my Nsg. books and then read saunders and do questions like a review. I think it helped, I passed on my first try with 75 questions. Oh, after I graduated, I read saunders over again before doing anything else. Hope that helps. Good luck and hang in there! :)

I finished my first semester in June. They started preparing us since the first test. The instructors create their test in the same format as the NCLEX (fill in, multiple response, diagram, etc). They aslo gave us a book to study (Lippincott). Although i dont graduate until 12/2006, i have to start studying now. At the end of each semester, we have to prove that we have completed x amount of questions. You can never be too prepared. I dont know everything the book ask for so i only asnwer what i have review or what i think i can answer just by using common sense. Hope this helps and good luck studying.

I started to use the books right away. I used them as an additional study tool. Some of the material was actually easier to understand out of the Saunders book than my textbooks/lecture used in class.
