What is your perception of how the management in your facility / on your unit functions?

-->They manage w/ blinders on. See only what they want to see.

-->Don't see nurses as people, rather just warm bodies. We're not allowed to show human emotion (i.e. stress, anger, fear).

-->Numbers, numbers, numbers!!!

-->Unfair application/interpretation of policy.

(Thankfully today is my last day there with the exception of my exit interview. Should be a doosie!!)

My facility is great. No, really, it is.

We have our problems, but they're type that come with the territory.

Our hospital's mortality rate is lower than nearby hospitals in our area.

Our vacancy rate is among the lowest in the state, our nurses are excellent, highly motivated, experienced.

Our docs by and large are excellent, if a tad testy. It's extremely rare that I wait more than 1/2 hour for a callback--like maybe once a year.

We have the equipment and supplies to do the job.

Our ER doesn't have long wait times.

Our Pharmacy staff completely rocks, is happy to answer questions, and gets orders in speedily for us.

Lab has a very fast turnaround time on tests.

Our RTs are excellent, willing to teach and consult with us, and really develop a caring relationship with every single patient--which is very therapeutic for lung patients.

Our staffing is as good as most places and better than a lot of places.

Our unit manager is visible to all shifts. Our educator gives us inservices and our unit meetings are done during night shift hours.

Our nurses and techs work together so well, that in a patient crisis, we have to shoo a few of them out of there because the room's too crowded.

Very rare to be refused for a request for a day off or some vacation time.

NEVER have problems with changes in the schedule after it's out.

Cafeteria's open till 0300 and we can charge food to our employee badge to be deducted from our paycheck. Ditto with the gym, the hospital gift shop, and charity deductions.

When we do have issues, I really feel like someone's listening and doing something about it, if at all feasible. We have more problem-solvers than complainers.

Upper management is visible and approachable.

I think what I like best is that the process by which we do most things is about as logical and as efficient as it could get. After working in other places in which the system for delivery of care had giant gaps in getting the service to the patient, well....I just like it better here.

The director of our unit referred to us as "cheeks in seats", not even acknowledging us as a whole person, just a body to be used.:o

The manager on my unit is can we say not living in todays world. She hasn't cared for a patient in over 30 years and has no idea what we do on a day to day basis (very frustrating). I do feel that she has our best interest at heart however, that doesn't equal 7 nurses when all you have is 3.

Our administrator owns his own airplane and between a 250-400,000 dollar home!! Yet I was once told that his definition of working "short" would be different from mine! Let's have a "call in the administrator night" !!!??? What do ya say? Sounds like fun to me!! Oh yea, we were also told that their "jobs are much more stressful than ours, so that is why they get ten more days off a year than we do"!!!! Hoohah!! How can we possibly get a fair deal when those at the top dont even know what we do really???? All in favor of the "call in the administrator night" say Amen.....
