DUQUESNE - ABSN - FALL 2020

Students School Programs

Published

Hey everybody! I haven't found a forum for the Fall 2020 Duquesne program in Pittsburg, so I figured I'd create one! I just received my acceptance today! Not positive I'll be going since I am waiting on quite a few other schools, but if anyone else has been accepted we could chat here! Good luck!

Hey! I very recently applied to Duquesne. Waiting for all my transcripts to be mailed and what not. Have you found many negatives about Duquesne? I have been so immersed in researching ABSN programs , but there are so many out there it’s wild!

Hello! I was accepted for fall 2020! Very excited and definitely going. Have you decided yet @nataduma?

I was accepted as well. I think I’m going! Haven’t 100% decided yet though. Do you know Pittsburgh well? I’m from the west coast so I’m really unfamiliar!

I don’t! I just moved to Pittsburgh about 6 months ago but so far so good. It seems like a nice city. I was supposed to go to a preview day for the program at the end of this month but they cancelled it due to the corona virus. I have spoken with some local nurses in passing that went to Duquesne and everyone has said great things.

That’s awesome that you’ve spoken with some people. I found some 2018 cohort students that I’ve messaged with some. Are you planning on the 12 or 16 month route?

What did the 2018 cohort have to say? I’m going to do the 12 month just due to financial reasons. I want to start working sooner rather than later. LOL what about you? What other programs are you considering?

I am I think leaning toward the 16 month route just to take a little stress off my plate, since I don’t come from a science/healthcare background. They pretty much just said yes It is fast paced and hard, but if you’re willing to give up a social life, it’s doable. One did say that several students struggled meeting the HESI benchmarks and had to decelerate to the 16 month plan. He also said (this I think was the year of the major HESI controversy) that he had a friend who didn’t pass the final HESI, and didn’t get his diploma until he was allowed to retake it a few months later.

Yeah I don’t have a healthcare background either so I am scared about the difficulty! I am also worried about the HESI too. I am not going to be working or have any other major responsibilities during the program though so I feel like I should have plenty of time during the 12 month but we shall see.

Anybody worried what will happen with the program if classes are still online from COVID come Fall?

Definitely. I am hoping classes are back in before then.

Has anyone not yet submitted their application? I am trying to finish my stats course before I send it in. I'm looking to send my application around the 21st/22nd of April.
