Duquesne University ABSN 2022
The program was manageable but it was very hard! I put 100% energy and time into it for 12 months straight (minus XMAS break). Mon-Fri was spent in classes/clinicals and Sat/Sun was spent studying all day. But because you are so busy it goes very fast. Do not go into it thinking you can slack at all; 20 people failed our first semester, and 25 who were in the 12 month dropped down to 16 month because the pace was too fast. I do not say any of this to discourage you but just be mentally prepared! If you study, are dedicated, and prioritize this program you will do fine! I finished with a strong GPA and passed the NCLEX in 75 questions (as did my friends in the program) but Duquesne does exactly what’s it supposed to do; get you to pass the NCLEX! There are HESI exits test following each clincial course and they are difficult but manageable. The final comprehensive HESI covers everything from the whole program and it was very hard. Only 10 people passed the first round (you get 3 chances to take it). Best piece of advice I could give someone going into the program is if you have an extra 300 dollars to purchase UWorld year subscription right before you start the first semester and complete all the practice questions throughout the year corresponding with each related course, if you do this you’ll be prepared for the exit HESI and subsequently the NCLEX. If anyone has any specific questions feel free to ask!

Duquesne University ABSN 2022
Hello! I came across this post and figured I could contribute. I was accepted into Duquesne in 2020 and graduated from the program this last July 2021 (I did the 12 month). The program was great and I feel I received a quality education. Duquesne has a wonderful reputation and I have had no problem finding jobs (although this is nationwide within nursing). I just accepted my second job (I’m going casual at the hospital and part time at another organization)! Please let me know what questions you all have and I will answer to the best of my ability!

Soon to be new grad seeking job start date advice please!
I should have included in the post originally that I graduate on the 30th of the month, figured I could take the NCLEX the following month, and the vacation is 6 weeks after graduation (it’s only 5 days long). Do you think saying “I can start X date” which would be 6 weeks after graduation is too long afterwards?

Soon to be new grad seeking job start date advice please!
Hello nurses, I am soon to graduate and have interviews coming up. Before I started school I booked a “graduation vacation” with my family to celebrate making it through a rough year of an ABSN program! I just want to ask how job offers go.. am I allowed to say “I can start after this date” or will the job offer state when I must start? I want to be armed with how the process works before I interview. I also don’t want to tell someone who’s offering me a job “uh I have a vacation and I can’t start until X date” because I feel like that seems shallow. I appreciate your time reading my post and appreciate any advice you can provide. This is my first civilian job after a 10 year military career so I am unsure how this works in the general workforce and haven’t had luck with my own research. Thank you!

DUQUESNE - ABSN - FALL 2020
How did your yellow ribbon status work out? Did you have any issues getting the school paid tuition or getting your housing stipend every month? I am starting this fall and using yellow ribbon as well.

DUQUESNE - ABSN - FALL 2020
Definitely. I am hoping classes are back in before then.

DUQUESNE - ABSN - FALL 2020
Yeah I don’t have a healthcare background either so I am scared about the difficulty! I am also worried about the HESI too. I am not going to be working or have any other major responsibilities during the program though so I feel like I should have plenty of time during the 12 month but we shall see.

DUQUESNE - ABSN - FALL 2020
What did the 2018 cohort have to say? I’m going to do the 12 month just due to financial reasons. I want to start working sooner rather than later. LOL what about you? What other programs are you considering?

DUQUESNE - ABSN - FALL 2020
I don’t! I just moved to Pittsburgh about 6 months ago but so far so good. It seems like a nice city. I was supposed to go to a preview day for the program at the end of this month but they cancelled it due to the corona virus. I have spoken with some local nurses in passing that went to Duquesne and everyone has said great things.
