Ok Im sorry Im a dummy but what does this mean

Greater than 100.

Easiest way to keep it straight is to plug in whatever value you're looking at right before the sign. If it's talking about blood pressure, then BP > 100 would be 'blood pressure greater than 100.'

One of my old teachers used to say that the alligator's mouth points toward the bigger one. In this case, the BP must be greater (bigger) than 100.

as a math person i recommend that the easiest way to remember the difference between > (greater than) and

less than

the tip of the "greater than" symbol (>) points to the right and to the progressively larger numbers. the tip of the "less than" symbol (

Greater than.

> is pointing to the higher #s (greater than)

I remember it by noting that the two lines are far apart on the side of the big number and close together (come to a point) at the small number. The distance between the two lines if big next to the bigger of the two numbers.

5 > 3

Don't feel dumb, those always confuse me too!

In elementary school we were taught that 'the mouth' is open toward the bigger number. Or maybe it was eating the bigger number. :)
