Hi! Wondering if anyone else applied to Duke's online MSN program? I applied for the AGNP track. Thought we could go through the gruesome wait process together :)
Ill try to update after the interview. I didnt think id be this irrationally nervous!
A look inside my brain: "what if the maintenance men start using the noisy leaf blower right outside my window?" "What if I have a coughing fit?" "what if my phone dies for no reason?" "WHAT IF I SUDDENLY HAVE TO POOP?"
Ten minutes and counting....
Ill try to update after the interview. I didnt think id be this irrationally nervous!
Okay so they asked things like what you hope to do/what you envision you career as a nurse practitioner. What has been a project or something you have done in the past that has improved things where you worked. A brief background of your job experience. What do you enjoy about being a nurse currently. What is something that you DON'T like about your current work. What will be the biggest struggle with you completing the MSN program at Duke.
I was also asked to describe myself in three words, and to describe a conflict that I had with someone at work and how I have worked to resolve it. Also asked what words THAT person would use to describe me. And what was the last time that I broke a rule at work. She also asked if I am in touch with any patients over social media. (These were questions that she said aren't on the list but that she just personally likes to add.)
The interview was just over 30 minutes long.
Hope this helps somebody!
I was asked somewhat different questions from Janey496. A lot of it was about my current work experience, and then what I envision to do as an NP. I then had time at the end to ask anything I was curious about. Honestly, I feel like our interviews will be slightly different depending on our essays and the professor interviewing us. I'd say the most important thing is to be yourself. :) it really wasn't as bad as I thought, and my professor was super nice.
Best of luck to all of you! :) I hope we all get in!!!
My interview was a little bit like kanhosa. The interviewer basically asked what I thought it was like to be a nurse practitioner and what I thought my biggest struggle would be as a nurse practitioner. Then I was asked elevator questions. Basically she would give me scenarios and asked how I respond to them. The first scenario was that I was on the elevator and an elderly gentleman approached me and said what does ACNP stand for and I had to explain to him what it was I gave my response. The second, I don't really remember what the second was... The interview was completely different than what I expected.
My previous interview at UVA was so defensive and rigid that I thought I didn't get in at that time. But I did. In this interview it was so laid-back, informal, and relaxing that I'm not sure what to think about it. There was a lot of laughing, smiling, and just ease between my interview and I. It's a bit scary because I'm not really sure where I am as a candidate for Duke.
She said that the interviews aren't being judged by the people that interview you. There's like an actual admission committee that looks at your application and not the actual interviewer.
I guess we wait until February 19 they said?
So I just finished my interview and I think it went pretty well. I got asked several questions the ones I can remember are where do you see yourself in 5 years? What qualities do you possess that would make you successful in the program? Why acute care nurse practitioner? What are the biggest challenges you think you will face and have to overcome if you get into the program? Tell me what you think a natural born leader means? When was a time that you made a mistake and what did you do? Tell me a time when you were an agent of change. She also asked me about my experience. So keep your fingers crossed she told me that we would hear from Duke via the portal on or by February 19th.
