Hey all,
Just wanted to know who is considering going to Duke for their FNP next fall. I know it's still early to apply, but the deadline is just around the corner.

This is the link for the booklist that the bookstore has posted. Some of the classes have their books listed. I'm planning on buying from either Duke or Amazon, whoever has the cheapest new books (I know I could save a lot with used, but I just don't like used books). Another thing I noticed is a lot of the books are one edition old, so I just want to wait and see what the instructors send out. I want to be sure sure this list is correct.
Hi NNP-2018, ( i was not able to msg you back, so i posted on your thread)
I just finished my program on 08/07. Sorry I am getting back to you so late. I was away on vacation for the last 10 days.
So, I did the Duke Family NP program online. I really liked the fact that you had notes and lectures at your fingertips. Only downside is that you had to manage your time well. I worked full time then I went to part-time/prn. It was challenging, but definitely manageable.
Pros-teachers were easily accessible and were always willing to help you.
Cons- clinical placements. My clinical placements were far away. I mean, I am glad that they placed you at the site, but my residency ended up being 3.5 hrs away. I had to get an apartment for the summer. It was challenging!
As far as tips go, I would say that you should get a boards review book early to study from early on. I did that my spring 2015 semester (peds and women's health) and it helped me a lot. :)
Good luck to you!!!
If you have any other questions, pls feel free to msg me!
Hi all,
I was just accepted into the NNP program at Duke for Sring 2016. I was hoping for any information regarding the matriculation plan! Im getting married next june and I am just trying to plan ahead as much as I can.
The director gave me a print out of a sample 2 year plan, is this set in stone or can students choose to begin with a lighter class load?
I also saw that the Summer semester is split into 2 terms on the academic calendar... there are three classes under that plan for the Summer semester, do you know how they would be split up? Im worried about possibly being out of the country on my honeymoon and being in school!
Thanks for all the advice!

You can create your MAT plan which has to be approved by your advisor. Basically it is a contract of your schedule. You can change it, but have to have approval by advisor. I just went to orientation yesterday, and basically keep in communication with your advisor for any problems you encounter. You can take a leave of absence, but it'll delay your expected graduation date.

I haven't seen anything posted on what books we need to buy.
What do you all think about purchasing books on Amazon using prime?
