Nursing Students Post Graduate

Starting a thread for all those who have applied to the Fall 2020 Term at Duke. I have applied to the Pediatric Primary NP program.

So, I just got an email saying applications for 2021 are now open if I wanted to apply. Anyone else get this? Is this their way or saying no but maybe next year? Lol

Hi Everyone! I applied for Fall 2020 PMHNP. My application status also states "Under Committee Review". I also received an e-mail Thursday stating my application was under consideration for a potential interview invitation.

Did anyone else here apply to the PMHNP program?!

This waiting game.... ahhhh!!

@jess427rn I applied and was accepted early for the PMHNP program for the fall.

Nice to see another potential psych NP on here!

Congratulations!!! How exciting!!!

I first inquired about the program in mid-November and was told that the application deadline was December 1st. I applied and submitted everything on time but really didn't get to obtain too much more information about the program other than what's online. Would you happen to know if this is a full-time program? As I've been researching programs, I have found that some only offer part-time PMHNP programs. I'm really hoping this is a full-time program. I've been so busy these past few weeks that I haven't gotten to inform myself on this!

Thank you @jess427rn

From my understanding, it can be full time if you make it, they use the term “fully enrolled” for everyone and you can plan with your advisor for a plan of study that works best for you.

I do not have my notes in front of me, but I believe the program can be finished in early as 6 semesters and the average length is 7 or 8 semesters. But they require us to do more than the minimum amount of clinical hours, so instead of maybe 500, we do like 660. Again, please don’t quote me on the numbers. So it really depends on what agreement you come to with the school and your work schedule, as most people continue working throughout the program.

Thanks for this information, I really appreciate it. At the moment it's a waiting game so in the meantime, I'm trying to stay busy.

@jess427rn you’re welcome! Let me know if you have anymore questions and I hope the application process goes well for you!

what sort of mental health experience do you have? And what other programs have you applied to?

I have 11+ years of mental health experience. I worked 2 years in private practice with the children-adolescent population. I've been working with The State of Texas in an in-patient acute care psych hospital caring for adults-geri for the past 9 years.

I also applied to UT Health Cizik SON for Summer 2020 start. These are the only two programs I have applied for. It's a drastic difference in tuition so I'm not sure what route I would take assuming I get accepted into both.

I just got the "potential interview" email from Nora! Whew, glad that 2021 email didn't mean anything! Fingers crossed for everyone!

Nice! And yes the tuition is high at Duke. Although I feel that it will be worth it long term. I know different from other programs I was looking into, Duke has you graduate being able to do tele-psychiatry and the training to prescribe buprenophrine.

Yes, I really like the tele-psychiatry certification and the buprenorphine training at Duke. I also appreciate their specialty "add-on's" that are available. Did you choose a specialty? I chose HIV.

Does anyone know what learning platform Duke uses... Canvas? Blackboard?
