DUKE DNP/MSN Spring 2018

Published

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to Duke for one of their graduate programs for Spring of 2018? I chose to go the BSN-DNP w/ FNP track route. Now I am patiently waiting for applications to close and interviews to go out. I would love to connect with other students who are applying! Also I would love to hear feedback from any current or past students. Thanks!

I know I thought 1/4 was a big scary too! You only had 1 person interview you? I had two!

I only had one, but they had to change my date due to interviewer's schedules. That may be why. Also, it could have been because I am MSN and not DNP.

Glad to hear your interviews went well! Any pointers?

I still have not heard about an interview. I touched base again last week (esp nervous after I was told my app was incomplete). She just said they are still processing applications and mine was now marked as complete. I am just hoping that the delay is because of just needing a DNP. I think acceptance rates depend on how many MSN candidates plan on continuing with DNP. I am such a planner...and I need to plan!! lol

The questions are all behavioral related not so much why you chose the program which I was kinda surprised by. From my understanding if I'm considered for the DNP I'll also have a separate interview for that! Good luck and keep us updated!

Yeah, the interviewers come in not really knowing anything about you. I think they may do that to keep out preconceived notions and then compare with your application later. Mine did not know my specialty, but she asked questions that were just about how I handle stress etc. I think that they want to get to know our professional personalities more from the interviews and use our application/personal statements for the other stuff. Good luck to you both!

Just curious...have you heard anything about a second interview? You mentioned that you may have another interview for DNP. I am hoping that is why I am so late to hear.---if they are doing DNP separately. They have told me my application is complete and in review process but I still have not heard anything! This is so weird! I have been accepted to another DNP program and their application was not due until June 15. I guess all I can do is wait, but I sure wish I would get a yes/no.

I think you may have meant to reply to Matthew.RN on this one. I am applying to the MSN program and he is the one applying to the DNP program. But, if I were you, I would probably call the admissions office and ask them if they have an updated timeline for you.

Sorry about that! Thank you!

I have not heard back about any other interviews. So far all I had was the one interview. I did call and ask someone at the office and they claimed that there should only be the one interview, but when I was booking the appointment originally for the interview it stated if you applied for a speciality certificate or DNP there may be other interviews. So who knows? I find it weird that they haven't at least told you if you are getting an interview or not :/. Keep us updated, congrats on your other acceptance!!!

Hello everyone...this is the only post I can find about Spring 2018 Duke MSN programs...I have applied to the MSN/FNP program....already have a BSN..do not want to go further for DNP...got an email yesterday to sign up for an interview...which I now have Friday. Anyone know how the process works?? I am excited and think that they would have already sent a rejection letter if I wasn't in the running....don't think they interview everyone??? Regardless...super excited!!

Hello, I interviewed mid July. I didn't realize they were still doing interviews this late in the game. That's good news though for those who didn't interview last month. I was told we would know decisions 08/18-08/21 and got a save the date email today for September 8th. Granted now I'm nervous that they're doing new interviews this late, I hope that doesn't mean the initial batch of applicants who interviewed are being passed on, good luck with your interview and good luck to all of us in the next step in our careers and goals :).

HI! I applied for their BSN to DNP PNP-AC track. I was accepted and will be flying to orientation in a couple of weeks! So excited!!
