Anyone else applying to Duke's ABSN program for Spring 2015? As we're approaching the application deadline, I thought it would be great to get a conversation started. If anyone is currently in the program, I would love to hear your thoughts about the program as well.
Due to changes in the curriculum and admissions requirements, admissions interviews are no longer a required part of the application process. In leiu of interview days, candidates selected for admission by the Admissions Committee will be invited to participate in an on campus Duke Days event. These event(s) will allow you the opportunity to meet with Faculty, tour the new addition to the School of Nursing, and tour the Duke University campus.
I'm confused... Does this mean they've completely nixed all interviews? Or are they making them no longer REQUIRED for you to attend stringent on your admission, especially for out-of-staters who, in the past, couldn't make it due to cost of travel? So in a way, Duke Days will be an informal kind of process of getting to know you?
I'm guessing they extended the deadline to June 11 because people hadn't gotten their materials in 100% by that June 1 deadline, because of the end of the semester.
Hi Homelife,Yeah, no more interviews! I was SOOO glad to hear that. Though now Im stressing my essays hahaha. Ateast finding out is just around the corner!
I was really looking forward to the interviews as a "second chance." I feel confident in my essays but with those stringent word count parameters, there's only so much you can say...which is why they always did interviews, so you can elaborate on them in person. This has me more nervous! Duke was one of very few programs that required interviews which I found both odd (mostly only Master's programs require them) but rewarding because of that second chance option.
I think with these changes, we will still be hearing back mid to late July regarding if we're invited to Duke Days. Anyone know the actual dates? Looking at past threads, it seems that the Duke Days sessions were July 19, 26, and 29.. Seems very early...
Well I didn't put a whole lot into my essays, I can tell you that. I am a bit worried. If I don't get into Duke I plan on either WSSU's ABSN or the respiratory therapy program around here. I like that field too. Honestly I'm not stressing it. If it's meant to be it will be.
Why not apply to UNC as well? Same start date!

Anixon,
I know! Hopefully more applicants will join this discussion soon. I'm interested to know when we will hear back on admission decisions.
