Hi All,
Just wanted to get a thread going for those who are applying to the Fall 2015 ABSN program. What are some of your degrees in? Is anyone applying to other schools? Also, is anyone planning on moving to North Carolina to attend?
Absolutely! I spent my last military assignment in Camp Pendleton and then down at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Just retired in January so, when people ask me what I do now that I'm done being a military officer, I tell them 2 things 1) Jack 2) Sh*t. Sorry if that was a little vulgar for the board, just a little Corps humor it's been great family time with my wife and travel, but I have that itch again that drives people like us to shoot for the stars and overcome the impossible and simply make a difference. Retired life has been cute for a few months, but it's time to crank it up again.
@ FJD13 . Glad to see diverse backgrounds in nursing! btw, did you apply to Emory? They have a program here you get to work at the VA in Atlanta which is magnet status hospital. I was wondering what the hiring process was at the West Los Angeles VA... I'm pretty certain I'd come back to LA, but nursing school and the market here is just very saturated . they say never leave California
Yeah, feel you on the market saturation. The regional VA architecture by Duke is well established and actually very progressive in their efforts compared to other sister VA offices. I would actually look to stay within the Duke Healthcare system after being credentialed bc there are so many pathways with quality mentors that can help for you to obtain top-notch patient care exposure in concentrated areas like Oncology. That's the path I'm heading for ABSN- MSN (ANP)- Oncology Concentration
Hey all,
I spoke with the admissions office this morning regarding a different matter and was told that decisions will be released in less than 48 hours for ABSN Fall. They stated that they are in the middle of processing the notices in the system and the notices will be released in the next day or so. Thought you guys would want to know this piece of info since I am sure we are all glued to our emails in anticipation.

Duke doesn't need the labs, but I went to a school with a quarter system so I had to take an extra class to have enough semester units for some schools =_="'. Also, other schools I applied to required labs, so I took them anyway.
I just don't think simulations are very helpful. Personally, I need the real life classroom feel for labs.
