I applied to the Duke SON ABSN program for the Fall of 2014. Anyone else out there who is applying for the same cohort? I saw that last year, the applicants got their interview/Duke Days letters at the end of January... hopefully we'll hear back soon! Good luck to everyone!
Hey everyone,
I also went to Duke Days on Friday and was really impressed with the school but is anyone else freaking out about the pricetag?! I knew it was expensive but it still shocked me. I have barely put a dent in my first undergrad loans and am kind of scared about piling on some more. Just trying to weigh the benefits of attending such a prestigious school with the inevitable financial hole it will put me in. I've heard a lot from both sides: about the benefits of Duke being invaluable but also the whole argument that at the end of the day you're a new grad RN wherever you graduate from. Anyone else weighing their options?
I had an idea of the price tag of Duke but I still decided to apply because there was many things I like about what Duke can offer me as a student. I guess I have to wait to hear back whether I am accepted or not, to make that final decision. But my interview is this Friday. I was suppose to interview the 14th and decided to move it. Can't wait! :0
I was at Duke Days this last Friday. For those asking, they said that first round decisions would be available on March 12th and then a second round of decisions would occur in mid April (I believe it was the 16th).
The event was done very well and the DUSON faculty and staff were very kind and hospitable, though the weather, as noted, was once again pretty bad (thunderstorms). Also there was a fire alarm that delayed registration. Don't worry about the interviews themselves. From my own experience they went well out of their way to treat us very warmly and they tended to pose questions in a relatively relaxed and conversational manner. It's not an anxiety producing process by any means.
If I had to give a tip then it would be to bring snacks. They provided us lunch from Jason's Deli, which was great, but it can seem like a long span between breakfast and that point. I hope that helps!
.....Oh, one last thing. If you want to be cool, and of course you do, then you call the school DUSON (sounds like Tuscon). When I first heard the term thrown around in conversation I didn't realize what people were referring to. I was like, "why is everyone so into Arizona around here?"

I'm interviewing on the 28th! I actually called and asked about the dress they preferred because there was some confusion between what people thought, and they said "casual/business casual". I hope that helps some of you that were asking. Good luck to all of you that are interviewing this Friday!
