drugs encountered in NCLEX?

Published

i just want to ask for your help. it might be a helpful tip for those who already took the nclex. what were the drugs you encountered in your nclex? there are many new drugs right now that i might not be aware of so i'm asking for your help if there were any usual or unusual drugs you encountered in your test? or were the drugs you encountered were mostly of one subject (ob drugs, psych drugs, ms drugs, etc.)any replies would be of great help! thanks! ;)

After speaking with a lot of school mates who've taken the NCLEX recently (with in the last 6 months or so) they have all stated to our school powers that be that the majority of the meds on their test were meds you see advertised on TV! Nexium, Plavix, Lunesta all the ED meds, the new diabetes meds, psych meds..those types that are advertised on tv.

Our instructors seem to think the reasoning is, if the general public knows about these meds from watching tv, then prospective nurses should too. :lol2:

Since we are graduating in 6 months, our teachers have all given us the advice of paying attention to the meds on tv (that is in addition to knowing the common meds). Hope that helps.

i took the test 2 years ago... but i really don't remember having alot of drug questions... most of mine were critical thinking types and patient scenarios

one weird one that stood out was a question about cyalis...not sure of the spelling... i never gave it while in school and never learned about it... i just saw the ads on tv... its the erectile dysfunction drug... thats all i knew. have no idea if i got the question right or not...

Hey CT... You are absolutely right... I already posted my experience with Cyalis before I read your post...

Honestly... I dont remember having any med questions... If I had to guess... I would say that I had 3 or 4 out of 75 questions... but the one I remember was Cyalis. Too bad I never studied it in school... I guessed at the answer and have no idea if i was right.

Thanks... I am currently preparing to take the NCLEX, nice to know about the drug portion. I was under the impression that the drugs would be basic like beta blockers, dig, TB medications, psych meds etc

anybody knows how to find list of tv medicines. i have no time to watch tv my exam date in a couple of days...please post here if somebody knows...thanks

Thanks for the recent posts here! At least you're making us aware of the drugs. I just don't get to watch TV all the time. Too bad..
