Drug Reps ...

Published

A friend of mine recently took a job as a drug rep . I guess I'm curious... and I don't mean to sound catty -- but what do drs. think about them ?? A blessing or pain in the neck ?? I am just curious.

Well, they sit up at a designated place here in the hospital 3-4 times a week and feed the docs pastries and chat with them. Seems pretty popular! :p

my friend left bedside nursing to become a drug rep. he says it really depends on the doc. some docs don't like them and make it clear that they won't see them and some just want free lunch for their staff. it seems like an interesting job. but i'm not cut out for sales.

Hi! I am a BSN-RN. I haven't have use my license for a long time because of few opportunities working as a nurse here. So I went to look for a job in pharmaceutical sales and has been working ever since for several years.

Our job is to promote drugs to doctors, conduct medical meetings or medical lectures. Visits pharmacies and other sales related stuff. Sure, some doctors don't like us but we do sure help them in improving their medical practice by introducing to them new medicines, new updates on drug therepies, etc.

Financially, aside from basic salaries, we have lodging and food allowances. The use of company car, sales incentives and commissions. The ability to travel to other places at company's expenses is great and so other benefits.

I guess I have said enough on this. :)

My friend Jeff is a drug rep. It allowed him to have full custody of both kids and to have time with them, and to be out and about. He hated sitting behind a desk.

At one major hospital and clinic chain I worked for, drug reps were not allowed. It was a major HMO. A drug formulary was set in place, so unless the drug rep's meds are on that list, he's out of luck anyway. This was on the west coast. We kinda thought they were the scum of the earth.

Drug reps seem to have more access to md's in the midwest, or at least that's been my experience.

At most places I worked for, we were too damn busy to deal with reps.

The only good thing was the free samples we could get for patients....
