sorry this was the question i got in book

20 gr. is gr xx 1 grain is equal to 65 milligrams so if theorder is 20 grains u have 20 x 65 which equals 1300 mg.

desired/on hand x # of tabs = tabs/dose

1300 mg/100mg x 1 tab = 13 tabs

Hope that helps.

You need to find out what gn xx means.Does it mean 20 gns for instance or does it mean something else.20 grains converts to 1295.98 mg.but is this the right connection.?

the order is for nembutal gr xx. the bottle contains nembutal100mg/capsule. how many capsules will be given

gr xx is gr 20 numerically

20 gr
(dose desired)
/100 mg
(dose on hand)
x 60 mg/1 grain
(conversion factor)
=
12 capsules

kind of a big dose. i saw nembutal ordered as 10 grain doses years ago, but not 20 grains.

I hate Roman Numerals. Thankfully we're not writing them that way in class but we ARE still using grains. Phooey.

Oh, PS - My instructor told us that any answer we give that is more than three tablets or capsules would require an answer of "12 caps, call pharmacy" because we'd need to request a different dosage that would give our patient less than three caps.

Hey, which book are you using? I've seen that question as well. thanks

One grain is equivalent to 60 OR 65 grains. Most schools pick one or the other to make is easy, but both are correct conversion factors. And obviously "xx" means 20 grains. With that said, "Daytonite" is correct that the answer would be 12 capsules AND "xos4eva" is ALSO correct by saying the answer is 13 capsules. Just depends on if you multiply the amount of grains by 60 or 65. Call the pharmacy is the end result with either answer.

It also depends on the drug; 65mg = gr 1 is the best conversion; the most noteable of these are Tylenol and aspirin (gr x = 650mg) (from Calculate With Confidence: 4th Ed. by Deborah Gray Morris).
