Drowning in BIO 202..What to do??

Hi guys,

I need your advice. I am registered this semester in an online BIO 202 classs. I took BIO 201 last semester and, while I found it difficult, I passed with a B. Things have gone awry this semester though. I am battling burnout coupled with diagnosed depression and have gotten behind in my coursework. Last week I thought I had my mind made up to drop the class, but I talked myself out of it and made up last weeks assignments. Now, I am trying to do the assignments that were due lastnight and I can't get it. It is Cardiovascular system...heart and all the blood vessels.

The question I come to is to trace the route of blood flow from the capillary beds of right thumb to capillary beds of left thumb. Same thing for "from the pulmonary vein to the pulmonary artery by way of the right side of the brain". I obviously didn't get the heart part down cuz I am lost BIG TIME.

I feel I may be able to push through if I could get a tutor somehow to meet me in the EVENINGS. I have a full time job so not all things are possible. Uggh. I am just disgusted in myself but know that online is always a risk. Especially for the understanding of the physiology part of the class, which is what I am lacking. I need to "see" it, but barely have enough time to finish my assignments!

If I drop, my appilication for nursing school will be sent back to me and I will have to wait another semester to apply, but the pro is I can register for a physical class in the Spring 05. That will also mean almost $400 for my current book and tuition wasted.:o I cannot commute the physical location of this college...it is too far away from me to go in the evenings (for tutoring). In the spring I would register for another local CC closer to me.

What do you think I should do? Face reality and realize it is not going to happen? How do I find a tutor now, and if I could, could I get caught up in time? I cannot take time off work, I have no vacation. I already took it all to take CNA classes. I need to figure out what I am going to do so I can quit breaking out in tears over my homework!!!

Do you think I can be saved or am I done for?????????

You know, this kind of stuff was really fun for me before I was "required" to study it in school!!LOL!!!:rotfl:

Well, that's it. You guys are in Arizona. Is there anyone on this forum that thinks they could help me? I may be willing to pay for it if you think it is salveagable. I NEED a tutor at this point. I cannot understand this just from the book!!!! :crying2: :crying2:

Anyone???:uhoh21:

I use the web site printed in the intro of my text books. They usually have quizes, visuals, and interactive learning tools. A lot of this stuff I find boring, so these tools help me. Goog Luck!:specs:

Hey, how are you doing? I thought of you today, as I'm looking over this week's lab that's due on Saturday and I came across those very questions! :chuckle

I was just wondering if you survived your midterm and feel like your head's above water, or are you still drowning?

Holding on for dear life, Klone!:chuckle

Full time job, second job, and this class, somethin's gotta give!!:rotfl: Mid term I take on Thursday. Keep your fingers crossed for me! CRAM night tomorrow!:uhoh3: This time around I will be happy with a C, given all the circumstances. I just did not want to drop out of the nursing school pool. Wish me luck, and the same to you. Given some time, I could have figured out the heart. Yeah, it'll be one of those hard parts that you just kinda skip over on the mid term cuz learning it would take way too much time. Time is just so hard to find these days.:uhoh21: I am keeping the books though, so I can go back and review to my hearts content (no pun intended) after school ends. Patho was supposed to be scheduled for Jan, but because this class doesn't end till late January, I won't be able to enter the ONE they have available. Figure I need a break just as well.......GOOD LUCK and very good to hear from you. It is nice to be thought of!:)

Yep. Just wanted to tell you that you were the one that convinced me to keep going. I was seconds from dropping it. Thank you for the encouragement!!:) This class is too freaking much work to take over, you know???!!!

Hi Janice,

I took this class last Spring. The midterm was not that bad, so I'm sure you will do fine. Lots of pictures (for the lab portion) to ID. The questions were pretty straight forward, although there is a lot of information to know.

Well, because I studied very little, I did not do "just fine", but I think I did pass...barely (with a C). We will see. I am happy just to hang on!!!:) Thanks for the info...I read it too late though to ease my stress, LOL!!:rotfl:

The good news is that part is behind you now, so you can start fresh! :)

Hey Kerry,

Yeah, that is so true. I don't think my instructor is even grading my labs, so I have gotten good grades on them, they may be enough to pull me even to a B if I can do decent on the final. Right now, I have a seasonal part time job for X-mas (it is hell, it is retail:crying2: ) so all the studying will take place post X-mas :rotfl: Oh well, gotta do what you gotta do.....

And OMGosh, that lab you were talking about that started this thread....holy cow, that was time-intensive! That week was two labs - blood vessels and the cardiac cycle, as well as an essay assigment. It took me TEN HOURS on Saturday to get it all done!

I know this thread is really old, but since it shows up in search engines I wanted to add a note. If you are considering taking an online Bio class from Rio in arizona, take my advice and don't! The instructors there have no clue how to structure an online class (and yes, an online SHOULD be structured differently than an traditional class). They basically just put the same syllabus on online students, and don't care to spend time going into detail on questions you have. They only care about having a certain number of students in their class. I've taken many online classes and now have my BSN, and the online classes I took at Rio were horribly organized. If you must take an online class I'd suggest Phoenix College or Glendale CC.

I have taken several classes from Rio Salado, and like any other course, self-motivation and time are two of the biggest factors in doing well. With an online class, those factors are even more important because there is no teacher right there to emphasize what's important in lecture. With Rio, they give u a ton of focus points in the lessons, which makes u think that those are the important things to study for the test, then they up and test u on other things. It stinks, and my grades sometimes suffered because of that. On the other hand, from what I've read on this website, this is often what happens in nursing classes so maybe it's a good lesson to learn early on.

With that said, my teachers were very responsive when I had questions. They usually responded within 48 hrs. I'm not saying i liked the teachers, because oftentimes I didn't, but they did answer questions.

My suggestion (probably too late for the OP) would be to take easier pre-reqs such as psychology and nutrition online, and take the hard science stuff (micro, a&p) in a traditional classroom setting

I recently talked to one of the Rio pharm instructors about the class and she says she and another instructor are in the process of changing it and it won't get any better. It will be a blistering semester as you'll be responsible for the entire pharm text and there will continue to be very little instructional support. Aside from a few emails, you will be on your own! Just a heads up for anyone interested in taking pharm at Rio!
