Hello all!
I'm just wondering if there are any out there who are in the process or have applied for psych nursing 2015 fall at Douglas college? I think I have about 11-12 points. How is everyone else doing? The sooner you apply, the better your chances are or no? (say a bunch of people have 11 points, will the person who applied earlier get priority?)
I've been going back and forth between BSN and BPN, but I know deep down in my heart, psych nursing is something that I've wanted to do ever since I was young!
Lets have some fun and discuss this topic!
Thanks for everyones input!!!!
xx
Hey nicolimuffin (cool name by the way), the answer is NO. they do not care, nor will they know ..so long as the information is completely filled out, you are fine. in the case of my stuff, i had my doctor complete my physical examination and do a lab requisition for blood work. for the vaccinations i needed, i had my doctor give them to me and for the vaccines he didnt have, i went to a public health nurse. usually there is a month or so wait for certain vaccines through public health, but i kind of spinned off the nursing thing and the public health nurse was happy cause im a guy, so she rushed me in the next day haha. it will not block you from getting accepted, but it might be rather difficult to find a walk in doctor who will complete the entire form, seeing as usually it needs to be done by someone whos known you for a long time, either way, as long as its filled out, your golden.
Dressage girly, i ALMOST took it with K.T, i didnt because i couldnt stand the thought of a 4 hour class once a week.
any more questions people? im on a role :)
Thanks hahaha my nickname was made by my friend lololol But on the form it says "how long have you know this patient".....so I was worried. Well, to be exact, my long time family doctor retired suddenly and since then I found a new family doctor who's been knowing me for only few months now... Like max 6 months..... So yeah.... He's pretty cool so I hope he fills for it (since he agreed being my family doctor)..
and about the immunization, omg so i got the letter on Tuesday (14th) although I got a call from admissions on 2nd and she sent the letter on 7th. So it took a week and I got the letter on 14th. And omg the deadline is 30th and I am SCARED about meeting the deadline. Less than 15 days. How long did the criminal record check take? Do u know?
and the immunization I'm gonna call pharmacy tomorrow to start but does it really take over a month?! Then there's no way I can meet the deadline what the heck!!
if you call the faculty, then they will likely give you an extension, not too long though. As long as you can provide proof of the first record of immunizations, then they will have to follow up with you as the immunizations become due, as there is waiting periods. As for the vaccinations, if you do not know which ones you have, your doctor will order a lab requisition and blood test you, then he will determine which vaccines you have..YOU MUST TAKE THIS PAPERWORK WITH YOU, you have to provide proof of immunizations, a doctors signature is good enough for entrance to the program, but you need to provide proof of immunizations while on site at clinicals otherwise they can send you home. You wont be starting actual PNUR clinicals in your first semester, but you will in the second and you need to carry around a binder/dossier with proof of everything that the college asks you to submit.
Also, they cannot charge you for immunizations. the only ones they can charge you, that are not covered under MSP is the tuberculosis skin tes, tthey charge you a nursing fee for the RN administering it to you, its around 50 dollars or so, and these appointments
you need to take CPI as early as you can, it fills up fast at douglas, and the schedule for nursing students at douglas taking this course is less than ideal.
Immunizations are free (which I've got 4 shots yesterday so lucky) but the lab blood work was freaking $52. and this is BEFORE getting the shots (I couldn't wait for the result so I got the shots right after doing the blood work) which means this lab result is gonna be a garbage $52 dollar wasted -__-
and all I have is the nurse filling up the pink paperwork. She didn't give me any other documents that says I've got the shots. Am I ok? Or am I supposed to do that blood work all over again?!?!?! (OMG another 52 dollars f****)
-___- and... The criminal record check is the one I'm f***ed with. They said it will take 7-10 business days and that is April 30th which is my duedate and I. Am. Scared. -_-
What's CPI?
as long as you complete the criminal record check application online and pay the money, you are fine, the criminal record check is sent to douglas college, it will explain this in the letter you received. CPI is crisis prevention intervention...it NEEDS TO BE CPI, not NVCI or any other one, the reason why is because CPI is regulated and ensures certain components and criteria are met, it is also standard in health care. As for the immunizations, you should have a nursing booklet..like an immunizations passport or something, as long as you have the bloodwork paper and the thing from the nruse stating its been administered, you should be fine. the public health nurse i had just wrote directly into my immunizations passport.
immunizations are free, the TB skin test is not. 52 dollars is expensive, i paid 23 for mine. are you in diploma, degree or 2nd year direct entry?
Oh really? I'm gonna call admissions anyways later today but that's nice to hear! (About criminal record check I mean)
i don't see CPI thing anywhere on my letter so I don't have any info about that. And since it's not on the letter I believe it's not the requirement to get into the program I guess?
omg. You paid 23?!!! I paid 52 what the heckkkk
I had to choose one as I got into both diploma and degree and I chose diploma since I already have BA in psychology, just gonna get the nurse degree in 3 years lol whoop whoop

Nope, I took mine with K.T, She was awesome and I just finished her final today. I was accepted to the degree program but didn't apply to the diploma program...I am kind of kicking myself now because I finished the complete first year. I'm going to do abnormal psych and Mirco this coming september so I will have that but then wait until the following september to actually start my PNUR courses. I am okay with waiting a bit because I have a 3 year old son and he will be that much closer to being in school. Anyways, I wanted to say thank you MONARK for giving us all that information!
