Hey just wondering how many people have applied or were planning on applying to the first intake of the newly structured psych nursing program at Douglas for fall 2017?
hey! I received that email too yesterday at 9:30 am saying that there was an info session that night at 5pm... I emailed right away saying that I was on my way to work and there was no way I could make it with less than 8 hours notice given, and that I had already attended an info session last september. I asked if it was the same info session (the one that starts out general in the main auditorium then splits into different groups in different rooms for the different programs) and she said yes it is similar. I have been in contact a few times with the woman who ran the one I attended (her name is ****) and the lady I emailed yesterday told me that she would tell **** I had already attended an info session and that she would call me to pick up my package sometime soon.
Did alot of people go to the info session?!?! what did they tell you guys?? was there alot of people in our situation still waiting for acceptance? I finished the last 2 bios last semester
There were 5 or 6 people in our situation waiting for acceptance. It was small and the only difference probably in the Infor session the talked about was the new curriculum. I finished my classes last semester too. I'm really hoping to hear back soon with an offer because I really hope to start in fall 2017! Good luck and keep me updated!
hmmm so they didnt give any indication of how many seats were left (Im assuming there are seats left or else why would they have emailed us) or if we were waitlisted or anything like that?
Ive just realised that the next application date for winter 2018 start is next week!!! (Feb 1st) what are we supposed to do? should we apply again?
was the ¨package¨they gave out just the course outline booklet thing? because when I went to the last info session it was already the updated booklet, so I believe I already have it.
did they just say to wait to hear from us?
The package was the course booklet but they updated it again this January she said and we were the first to see it. There are 40 seats total she said and she said they are still giving out seats as far she knows. I'm applying for winter 2018 just to keep my options open because I want to make sure I get in either way.
She took the names of the people waiting for an offer so she could give them to our admission advisor so she knows we attend but yeah basically we just have to wait to hear back.
hmmm did anyone acknowledge the fact that the next application date is less than a week away? I guess I am applying again too...
also I still cant believe they gave us less than 8 hours notice for the info session! especially since it was at 5pm... at least if it was at like 7 or something people who worked that day could still make it.
I bet theres way more than the 5 of us in our situation that just didnt make it to the info meeting.
I did bring it up and she said if you don't get a seat offer right away to apply for the next intake just in case.
Yeah it was definitely very short notice and im glad I was able to shuffle my schedule around to make it to this one.
There could be but I have heard from some of my friends in the program that there have been whisperings that this intake is not competitive at all. The applications for the program are still open meaning they aren't over filled with people trying to get in so it honestly could go either way for us.
Sorry to ask a million questions but was the info session only people that had been specifically invited (aka people who had applied/finished the prereqs) or was it just one of those info sessions where anyone interested in the program could show up?
Also I'm sure you heard about the people (I heard it was 9) that applied in October for fall 2017 start but were offered a seat to start this jaunary because spaces opened up? Ever since that happened I was under the impression that no one had actually finished the prereqs earlier, everyone was just finishing them up last semester... (Although I see someone earlier in this thread that said they finished them in 2015)
Because the people I know that got offered for Jan 2017 were still currently in the prereqs...so I thought that would imply that there was no one else waiting to get in already finished
No there were other people there. It was one of those general interest information sessions, but there were also a few people who got the email we got.
Yeah I've heard, one of my friends got accepted. This January intake was off the old pre requisites, not the new ones. The people that got in were people who had previously applied to the old program before they closed it.
If it is anything like the old program, offers won't go out until february.
The general nursing program is a bit of an exception at this point because they have actually filled like 2 or 3 more intakes so they are trying to do everything earlier so they aren't bombarded with emails and questions about acceptance. They made the mistake of not putting a cap on the AF program for gen nursing when they first brought it in so now they have a major backlog of students trying to get into the program.

I received the email to attend the information session yesterday and there also happened to be one happening that night. I attended that one and they released the new curriculum framework to us that will be implemented starting Fall 2017 which was very exciting to see! I am hoping to hear back with an offer soon, fingers crossed!
