I must still have winter vacation brain because I cant seem to work out this simple question. Please help.

Question

Order: Toradol 15mg IV over 1minute

Available: Toradol 30mg/ml in 2ml

How many ml's will the nurse administer?

I came up with 0.5ml but the answer is 1ml.

I thought the 2ml was a distractor because it states the dose is 30mg/ml and it was just stating that you had a total of 2ml on hand.

my solution is this:

D/S X Q ( Dosage divided by Stock multiplied by Quantity)

15mg

30mg X 2ml

0.5 x 2ml = 1ml

when the quantity is given you have to multiply it. To me it looks like the question is straight forward. It says "30mg in 2ml" means you have to dilute with 2ml (this happens in powdered form drugs) .. sometimes you dont have to multiply it even if it is given because its already diluted like in ampules. Like if it says 30mg/ml then only 15mg / 30ml then the answer is 0.5. You will see the difference because when you multiply it although the quantity is given the dosage doesn't make sense or its too high / too low basing on the drug.. I don't know if I am explaining it right someone correct me if I am wrong between my lines but this is how I answer my drug calculations when I was in nursing school and when on clinicals while passing meds. I hope this helps.
