Published

im a foreign educated nurse: have ielts: tbs 7, but writing and reading 6.5. have experience for 2 yrs in a 25 bed capacity hospital. an agency offers me a job in uk as domiciliary carer. i want to know if its worth it, i mean, considering the cost of living in uk, taxes to be paid, and other deductions.

also, in applying, do i really need to pay P300,000 or almost 5,000 pounds to the agency(inclusive of airfare, processing fee, etc.)

really need your reply asap, thank you.

You are looking at a carer and I am not sure how this meets UK work permit requirements. The UK is suffering very high unemployment so not sure how the company or employer can justify going abroad when there are many in the UK that could do the work. Carers are usually paid minimal wage and a lot will depend on where you live to what your cost of living will be.

how about taxes, deductions, fees?

Deductions and taxes should be done by your employer and should show up on your wage slip. do a search for National Insurance contributions and UK taxation and that should give you an idea on figures. However I still suspect you will find it extremely hard to get a work permit because it is not a job in demand

I think that the total deduction account for about 33% of your wages. This will be tax, national insurance etc. Cost of living in the UK is very high and as a unskilled worker (which is what you will be if your able to get a work permit) you can only expect to earn minimum wage.

Hi everyone it is true cost of living is high, however, the agency worker here in the UK gets alot more than permanent hospital staff. some hospital will pay reasonable good for healthcare assistant (HCAs).(Not sure if domicilary carer is the sameas a HCA) a little over the minimum wages. I went on a interview with some other girls two weeks ago who came from the philipines through an agency. what I think as well is that they tend to like nurses from the philipines and Australia/ Newzealand. The nursing homes pay minimum wages but it's not too bad i think it is 5.80 pounds and will increase on the 1/10/10 to 5.93 pounds. your pay for the mounth in hospital on basic pay will be 980.00 pounds after all tax deduction. in nursing home it may be about 850.0. not bad if you buget really tight. oops, the cost of renting house is expensive, best to share house (rent a room) until you get on your feet if you come. but it is rough here as well their are some job freeze in some places but some reputable hospitals known world wide are hiring. good luck on what ever you choose to do.

Why ever would you waste your training & do this??? It's ridiculous to even consider it! Wait until the economy bounces back, bide your time & then go somwhere you can be the RN you were trained to be.

Plus paying those ridiculous agency fees, how are you paying those back?

For a room alone you pay several 100 £ (I paid 350 several years ago).
