34,000 dollars for lpn school at platt okc

This is just too much money for a simple certificate compared to a RN degree. I was thinking about going to this school but the price has been heavy on my mind. I was already accepted and theres no waiting list you just have to pass a HESI entrance exam. The exam was hard but i managed to pass my first try. The only reason why i was considering going is because im a single mom of three kids and 4 years or more at a regular college is just too long and life happens during those years. I want to make sure ill have the time to get through everything. Im a cna/medication aide and ive been doing it since 2008. I feel desperate and all the smaller vo-techs around here have waiting lists and other requirements i dont have or have the money for such as certain college courses. My original plan was to enroll at a community college here for my RN but its just the time. Its either or. Time or Cost. I was also considering enrolling at a vo tech for AUA or often called Patient Care Techs so i could do this at a hospital and possibly having the hospital help pay for me to go to college. I know some of them do tuition reimbursement or even send staff to school. Any comments are welcome and encouraged to help me to make the right choice. Thanks

I am not from Oklahoma but 34k is INSANE god just an LPN cert! I paid 15k which I think is nuts as well.

^Ahem, it's PN diploma, and LPNs are licensed, FYI. :)

OP, I'm not from OK either...I understand your eagerness to become a nurse, but I rather wait and enter a program for 1/2 the cost. Just my opinion. If you have been a CNA and a med tech, then you have experience to get into a hospital. No additional courses may not be needed. They can assist with you getting your BSN, especially if that is your ultimate goal. I would look into getting into those hospital systems, as well as if you can go to school part time.

Since I am not in your state, find out what other posters have done from your state. Regardless, that tuition is high, but may be your best choice as well. You will be a NURSE upon completing your PN education. it served me well prior to returning to get my BSN. Good luck!

The tuition at Platt College must have increased very steeply in recent years. I attended the LPN-to-RN bridge (A.S.N.) degree program at their north OKC campus in 2010 and paid about $19,000. The tuition would have been $23,500 but I transferred credits into the program which were accepted.

I couldn't imagine paying $34k for an LPN program in Oklahoma or anywhere in the US. The LPN pay rates in OKC are very low, and unless you work two jobs, you will barely make $34k in a year as an LPN in the low-paying state of Oklahoma. Have you checked out the LPN program at Francis Tuttle? It is much cheaper. Good luck to you.

Yes I do realize we have licenses as I one and our schools call it certifications not diplomas, I have never heard it called a diploma. It's the same thing, either way 34k for an LPN education is outrageous whether you wanna call it a diploma or cert.

Thank you everyone for the comments. If im having second thoughts than its probably for a good reason. Not sure whats next but i will go to school this year! To The Commuter, i would love to pay 19,000 for the RN and not 34,000 for lpn. Thats just not right!

I graduated from there last year and paid 18k. All depends on if you qualify for grants.

Just so you know, (I go to OCCC, but last year considered getting my LPN from Platt) Oklahoma hospitals and clinics will hire from a tech center or college or university before they'll hire from Platt or any other private owned college. As I was told by a radiologist from Oklahoma Heart Hospital "Platt college is pretty much the laughing stock of the medical field." She advised me STRONGLY against going that route, and I'm really grateful she did. The opportunities are much better as an RN than an LPN, but even if you just want your LPN, Moore Norman Technology Center was pretty easy to get into, and doesn't last THAT long.

Thanks SylviaBee! Im enrolled in occc to start pre reqs, im considering also doing the AUA just to get out of my job and get into a hospital. The only thing is im not sure if hospital hours will work with my school schedule.

Everyones experiences are different, im just curious if you dont mind. I have quite a few friends who have graduated from Platt & some who are about to graduate. One of my friends does Hospice and also works for the Federal Transfer Prison, she graduated from Platt. Another friend works at the Detox center. With that info, im sure Platt being on your app isint as bad as most try to make it seem.

Hi, yes I graduated from Platt and it was tough as the teacher turnover rate was very high so we had to get accustomed to every new teacher that came and change how we learned things and they made a lot of changes during our time there but we made it through. I work at a hospital and there are a few RN's there who got their LPN's at platt and had no issues with obtaining employment after going to school there.
