dole issues certificates for successful nursing retakers

beginning wednesday, the department of labor and employment (dole) will issue certificates to nursing graduates who retook the scandal-tainted june 2006 licensure exams.
a total of 729 or 64 percent of the 1,131 who took the december 2007 dole-initiated voluntary retake of tests 3 and 5 passed the examination.
in a statement, labor secretary marianito roque said the schedule of release of individual certificates follows:* may 7, 2008: abad -- bendo
* may 8, 2008: bergado -- dayawon
* may 9, 2008: de guzman -- ganay
* may 12, 2008: gantangco -- luna
* may 13, 2008: lusis -- paderes
* may 14, 2008: padilla -- saloria
* may 15, 2008: samia -- zolina
roque said the certificates will be released from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the office of the secretary in intramuros, manila, upon the presentation of the examinee's professional regulation commission license.
he said that those who live outside metro manila and want to claim their certificates through the dole regional offices should register with the nearest regional.
a total of 402 exam retakers or 36 percent failed to meet the passing grade of at least 75 percent in both tests 3 and 5.
roque, however, clarified that the results of the voluntary retake examination will not affect their status as licensed nurses. those who failed will simply not qualify for us visascreen certificate issued by the united states' commission on graduates of foreign nursing schools (cgfns).
those who failed will simply not qualify for the visascreen...a kiss of death for that nurse's dream of working in the us.
kinda callous to me.
maybe these people should be given another chance?

just to add..Nurse B, also passed the exam. She took the retake and failed. She didn't surrender her license. Now, she is the unit head nurse in the hospital she is working. I believe she cannot enter the US since a Visa Screen can't be issued to her.
Can she apply to work in Middle East or maybe Canada, Australia or
New Zealand?
Also, is she allowed to surrender her license if in case she wants to retake the exam and clear out the june 2006 stain?
Pls. refer to my answer and the link I posted on post #10 regarding other countries. Australia seems to be looking for the re-take as well. For the middle east, as far as I know, as long as you passed their exams it does not matter. Someone can correct me on this.
As for still being able to still waive their license, it is better that they ask the BON and not the PRC to correct my previous statement.
You may also refer to the link to a thread I posted in post #10 that made mentioned that the BON previously declined it but as you can read from a fellow member (post #7) he knows a few that failed the re-take of test 3 and 5 and able to waive and re-take the exam again last June.
There are conflicting stories. Best way is for your friends to personally ask the BON themselves if they can still waive their license and re-take the whole exam again even after failing the special re-take of test 3 and 5.
As Lawrence01 requested.. :)
To clarify things about the retake...
Im one of the june 06 license holders who was able to waive the license this april and took the june 08 board.. Thank God.. I passed! :)
In connection with the waiving of the license.. June 06 license holders will be given chance to waive thier licenses and take the whole new examination, ONLY UNTIL NOVEMBER 2008 (as per e.o. __ forgot the exact #).. after that recommended time, NO more considerations will be allowed...
I suggest that those who are concerned about the issue, should go directly to PRC, talk to BON secretary or go to legal department and clarify things..
Hoping that this will help those who are still planning to waive thier licenses, I know how it feels to be holding a license with tainted stigma.. I think almost 2 years (from june 07-nov 08) of thinking, even w/ emotional dillema, of whether to give up or hold on to june 06 license, is enough time of consideration to decide and be able to waive the license..
ouch.
you're correct.
I remember when this thing started--and some people here suggested to just waive the entire thing and retake the December 2006 NLE, so the nurse grads can move on with their lives.
(I think only 3 people did this.)
Guess I was one of the three!
Took the entire test again, and never regretted it.
hi i am a june 2006 NLE passer but failed the special retake exams..for 2 years, i cannot move on...i simply get away with talks in coming to US and so so... its been quite a long time and i promised myself to never again take the NLE.. i simply do not want to surrender my Phil. license..and i better planned for job employment abroad except for US....however, i filed my NCLEX application years ago and its about to expire.....i have no choice but to take it last August 2008 ..fortunately, i passed!!! i thought my American dream was over but probably passing the NCLEX was a good sign..... so i decided to waive my local license... PRC told me that this coming Nov 29-30, 2008 will be the last NLE that they are giving us the chance for a voluntary retake.....il rather risk now than risk my future...some of my friends who did not make it to the retake do not want to surrender their license, thinking they could get away with it if they will go to New zealand, Canada , etc.. instead.. Unfortunately, i asked a number of employers and most of them are asking for the results of the retake..... Better retake than suffer later...
Lets get away with the June 2006 scandal and move on....Deadline will be this coming October 17, 2008 so u still have time to file guys.. Filing in PRC isn't that bad this time compared years ago.. we used to wake up early everyday just to file and come back again and again the next day.. it really took us forever... but right now, it just took me one day to finish my work done.. Cheers to PRC!!!!
