Doesn't anyone here talk about UK nursing?

I've been a member here since I started as an HCA and then student nurse 3+ years ago. I've now qualified and got a great job ( I think!) on a respiratory ward. I love the work, the other staff have been incredibly helpful and I'm learning lots.

The ward sister is very supportive, and I'm about to do my single drugs ax...

I know nurses need to let off steam, but we could at least moan about local issues:

district nurses being pushed aside by community matrons?

Lack of job prospects for newly qualified nurses?

Does the RCN really push our interests?

Maybe there should be a separate forum for all those trying to get across the pond, and UK nursing could focus on UK issues?

jsut a thought...

There is the international forum which a lot of nurses wanting to go to the US post on, things just get mingled on here too I guess. The bulk of nurses on this site are practising in the USA so it serves as an invaluable resource for us nurses that will be eventually going to work there. Its a great pool of information, theres an awful lot to learn. ;)

But yes I agree, it is a great forum for UK nurses to vent about UK issues too.

Since I've been a member there have been plenty of UK issues discussed here too.

If you want to post something about a UK issue you'll get an answer just as quickly and with just as much enthusiam as if it were about international issues. You don't need another forum just people willing to post their question/comment or discussion topic.

Go ahead & try......

Oh & BTW there are 2 other posts on this page alone pertinent to the UK only right this minute!

I think alot of UK nurses post on here going accross the pond feel more comfortable at posting, discussing etc with nurses from the UK who have either already emigrated or are in the process of emigrating to the US.

However lots of discussion have taken place on issues about nursing in the UK, NHS and we do have a few student nurses who post on here who have asked for advice re the interview process and have shared with us their progress from interview to becoming a student.

Please feel free to discuss any topic you feel is relevent to the UK and I am sure you will get lots of lively interesting responses.

yes this is certainly the palce to post about uk nursing issues. i tried to get my colleagues onto the site while i was still in the uk. but uk nurses dont seem to be as vocal on this site as american nurses are,,,,,,of course thay are vocal enough when you do get them to discuss things. its also the place for uk nurses who want to emigrate to the usa as well, because this is where as uk nurses we can pick each other's brains. american nurses will never understand the uk culture of nursing, or the trials and tribulations of the immigration process which sometimes can be pertinent to ourselves.

but please encourage as many uk nurses as you can to post here, as we all want to keep up with our heritage of uk nursing.
