It depends on the hospital and region. In California, some nurses are allowed to work on 'interim" permits before they pass their boards at certain hospitals. Then they will receive a pay increase ($2/hr in some cases). In other hospitals, they expect you to pass your boards before you start work. Contact your HR rep. THey will have all the pay scale details. Hope that helps.

Mine didn't go up, it stayed $21.27

Pardon me for my bluntness, but how is it that you looked over a hospital as a prospective employee, interviewed for the job, went over benefits etc with HR....and don't know the answer to that question BEFORE you even signed on? How can you not know the salary you will be earning?

i got hired prior to my nclex and the pay is the same offered after i passed plus a sign on bonus of $5000. i get 22 base pay for the 12 week orientation then 26.11 base pay after 12 week orientation.

Not at my hospital. I was hired at 19.82 and right when I started, there was a hospital wide raise, so my pay went up to 20.32. No pay difference for GNs vs newly hired RNs. But GNs can do everything RNs can do, I was administering IV narcs my first day on the floor, as well as administering PO meds, and doing the full assessments, etc.

My hospital does have a rule that all GNs must take their boards within 3 mos of their employment date, apparently they ran into problems when GNs put off their boards for some months and the longer they put it off, the more likely they didn't pass.
