  1. Hello everyone. I'm a 2nd year FNP student at Ball state university online program, I'm having a dilemma. I have med/surge experience in the past about 2 years worth and I currently work OB (L&D, ante and postpartum, nursery the whole shebang) well I'm getting tired and bored with OB. I wan something new and I also feel that being in OB currently while doing FNP isn't beneficial to my learning. I know this may sound crazy but I kinda miss med surg. I've been doing OB now for 4 years and I feel like all that med surg knowledge is gone. I want it back and I think it will help me in the Long run. I want med surge style patients but don't want the stress and high nurse pt ratio of the unit. What other type units do you suggest I try to work so I can obtain my medical knowledge again. If I wanted to be an midwife this unit would be great but I feel I'm limiting myself. I'm also scared to go back to med surge because I'm rusty and don't want to feel like an idiot. Than you for all your responses and support.
  2. Did you find any luck? Im looking for a clinical site as well for my FNP rotation this Fall, I only need 45 hours. It is very difficult, I have been looking since march as well.
  3. I'm going through the exact same situation except different schools. I attend Ball State university FNP online. I just don't know what words to say and apparently this is a long process because they keep enforcing start early. I'm going to call my future instructor to see if she has any tips, if she does I will. et you know.
  4. Hello i am a military spouse moving from alaska orginally from wash,DC, and i will be moving to Augusta at the end of april. I have 3 yrs experience as a RN. ive worked med/surg for 1 year and half, then i went into OB since Jan 09, i love it. I was crossed trained with my old job so I have some L&D and Nursery experience but majority of my expertise is Mother Baby couplet care. Im looking for hospitals/clinics in the area to apply. Can you help me with my search for any OB jobs. I prefer mother/baby but will do L&D with more training, i only have about 3 deliveries under my belt. Thx sooo much:):):):)
  5. hello i have some questions and maybe you guys could help. first im a army wife and my husband is deploying in sept 2008, i plan on going home while hes gone cause i have no support up here and i have no kids. Home is MD area. i want to try travel nursing but only like local travel nursing. is that a good idea and then i will continue to travel nurse but only local travel nurse for each duty assignment we get. ie. we are in alaska now so when he comes back from iraq i would want to local travel in alaska, and then wherever else we go. i could still get the stipend that most companies offer for housing. does that sound like a good idea. another question i have is i have 13mnts experience in med-surg because im a new nurse but i want to go into post-partum/couple care if i go travel, do they allow that or do i have to totally have at least 1 year experience in post-partum prior to joining. i do have some slight experience because before i was a RN i was a nurse extern for mother/baby unit. is travel nursing for me or is it a bad idea for my situation? also can i have a list of travel agencies that are highly marked so i could start my research, what should i be looking for, whats good whats bad. thanks for your advice.
  6. Could someone please please please help me out, if you have a list of great Grad schools for nurse informatics, online. and for on campus for the MD, VA, DC area. i would really appreciate it. or tell me what school u went too. i need a really good school to attend for this Degree. i currently live in alaska but im going back home which is the MD, DC, VA area while my husband is in iraq and i need some good schools to go to. ONline or on campus. Help me if you can thank you very much.
  7. who is this? i know you, how u know im from BSU???
  8. Ok this is my 4th week on orientation and my patient load has moved to three patients. i am pretty a fast learner. i work on the med-surg unit and i have an awesome preceptor. My supervisor calls me in her office and of course i think i made a big mistake on something. so she says that she is so LUCKY to have me there. im like ok thank you, you know. then she continues and says she has been following up with the patients i had and asks them "how do you like your nurse". and she said all of them said that i have been great and is very nice and considerate and how i am there best nurse they had ever during their hospitalization. they also said i made them so comfortable. I never tell my patients that i am a new nurse unless i get comfortable with them cause i dont want them to doubt me especially since i look 14years old and im 23. so after the patient says whatever about me, my supervisor then tells them that im a brand new nurse and they say they would never have thought it. I mean that made me feel soo good. Im black and if i were light skin i would turn red all over, lol. That makes me feel soo good and really proves that this is the job for me. and i am achieving my goal, making the patients comfortable in a situation that is impossible cause nobody wants to be in the hospital. so my supervisor gave me two pendants to put on my badge that says red carpet service and she said if someone ask why i have two, its cause two particular patients said some extraordinary things about me. I FEEL SOOO GOOD!!!
  9. Okay i was in school for 5 years total 2002-2007, no transfers. I went to college as soon i graduated high school. it was 2 years prereqs for the school, then i applied to the program got in, that took 3 years to complete. that is just how my program was ran. I recieved my BSN. Yes it was worth it. I worked long and hard and had fun my entire tim3 of college. i actually miss it. Now im a new grad for the med-surg unit.
  10. Yes you can, I went to school in Maryland graduated, and moved to ALASKA, took my NCLEX in ALASKA and work currently as a new grad. All you have to do is go to the website of the BON or you can call. submit application some states require fingerprints for background.
  11. Well i just passed my NCLEX and stared a job this week on the med-surg unit. i mean i am excited about learning and getting all the experience i could get. but i really dont desire to stay on this unit at least thats my feelings for right now anyway. i inspire to work on a mother/baby unit. i had an externship as a student tech there before i finished school and loved it. to go from a happy place to this crazy sad place is kinda depressing. the only reason i am working this unit is because of the vast experience ill get and the mother/baby unit wasnt hiring. I feel guilty to know that in the back of my mind i am only going to be here for a year and try to transfer. i know each unit wants them to stay and be commited but that is not where my heart wants to be. i feel bad for feeling this way but is this normal? this is not the area of my dreams. how can i keep a positive attitude about this situation?
  12. i got hired prior to my nclex and the pay is the same offered after i passed plus a sign on bonus of $5000. i get 22 base pay for the 12 week orientation then 26.11 base pay after 12 week orientation.
  13. i work for banner health i just stared this week but i interviewed for them like a month ago before i took my nclex, i interviewed for the long term care facility and the medical unit. i got offerd the medical unit on the spot and didnt hear much from the long term care, and others i tired to interview just didnt call me back such as PACU, RADIOLOGY. but its cool but i believe that the interview was great, mines was long also. they might have liked you as person. did you guys carry on a lot of converstaions? they was just trying to feel you out and make sure u wasnt fake. as long you was yourself it should be fine. you pay is ok too so take it. each unit differ though cause one unit told me i would get like 13 something base pay for the 12 weeks another unit told me i will get 22 base pay for the 12 weeks. so pay differs but they both offered me 26.11 after 12 orientation. i like banner health it reminds me of my last hospital i worked for when i was at home in MD, its highly technical and benefits are great, and staff are nice, and they up to date on their evidenced based practice. i work in the banner faclity in alaska. good luck
  14. 1. i passed with 75 questions 2. i used kaplan review, mostly qbank, saunders, and would go to barnes and nobles and do question from random books especially the new format ones. 3. My SON offered ATI review classes our first 6 weeks of our last semester in school to prepare us for our exit exam, i only used saunders to prepare for that test. i passed the first time. 4. i just moved from MD to Alaska and alaska dont offer the quick result so i took my test thur at 8am look on SBON website and found license on sat morn. 5. man i was so unsure of myself, i had alot of medication question that i hate and dont know and i had alot of select all that apply, i absolutely hate those. i thought i made some dumb mistakes. i worried and hoped i passed and looked up questions i rememberd. i was a nervous wreck and shaky. 6. yes this was my first attempt
  15. yeah its pretty normal, i really only used the Qbank questions and my average was like 61-63% i passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. i just read the rationales after the question i got right or wrong, because some of those i just guessed. i practially did all the questions in the qBANK i think it was very helpful. once i scored a 70% and i was excited, lol
