Seriously? Did you tellyour agency?

Foley insertion is not a usual function of CNA/HHAs employed by an agency. Different story if you are privately employed. In the future, do not attempt to do a task that is not within your scope. Discuss this with your supervisor if you decide to seek employment with an agency again. And sometimes licensed nurses have difficulty successfully inserting a foley so don't feel badly about this.

Why in the world would you attempt to place an indwelling urinary cath? Did impatient lady realize she contaminated it when she jerked it out of your hand?

And did you tell her that smacking you on the back of the head costs xtra?

Seriously, as a CNA, you are responsible for foley care and maintenence, but not placement or discontinuation. If you work for a reputable employer, you won't have to worry about being asked to perform tasks outside your scope of practice. As far as being hit is concerned, you weren't physically abused, you were assaulted. Is there a reason why you didn't report this assault to the police?

People like that get away with that behavior once, then they think they can do it again to someone else.

It was from an ad I saw in the paper in clearwater,fl. The client was paralized from the waist down in a wheelchair. As I walked out the door I said " Good luck with finding someone who will take the abuse", and I slammed the door so hard behind me that glass on the door broke. I was so p'ed that calling the police in on it never crossed my mind. I drove off with peeling ,sqealing tire marks on her new driveway!

HAHAHAHA! Good for you! Maybe they'll at least think twice before assaulting someone again.

You should have filed a police report. Next time something like this happens, do so, or you may find yourself on the receiving end of a false report from the "perp".

This is true and the "professional" way to deal with the situation, but.....I still think it's funny.

Yeah, it is funny, but the clients rarely laugh when they make something out of accusing nurses of wrongdoing. They are serious in their rage.

You have got to be kidding

First of all; it is "insertion" not "incertion". Secondly, I think its hilarious you got hit in the back of the head with a catheter....I could not stop laughing when I read it. I think calling the police is a poor waste of their time. I think you should review your technique till you get it down, and if this really bothered you as bad as you say it did, than YES homecare is probably not for you. It takes a resilient person to work homecare.....one whose not going to crumble at something as mere and hilarious as this. Assault and battery charges is really blowing it out of proportion.
