I went to sit on the toilet a few minutes ago, and just about lost the contents of my scrub top pockets into the toilet.

You are not the only one. I have lost 2 cell phones this way and a pager. But not again.

Haven't had that happen sitting on the john...but it's happen more times than I can count bending down to pick stuff up. Including some things I have to carry with me but am not sure I want coworkers/patients/visitors to see I have in my pocket.
I don't use my chest pocket for much, just for that (leaning over) reason.
I don't even have chest pockets on my tops....I'm talking about my waist-level ones, LOL!

i've dropped two of the all important ASCOM portable phones in the potty. also lost some glasses, scissors and pens in the toilet.
i've been fortunate with my cell phone though... usually that one lands on the floor. :)

at work, i've lost penlights, scissors, pens, notes, empty blister packs, etc. while i was on the john.
away from work, i've lost pens, my phone, dog and cat treats, my car keys, my checkbook, and
tickets to a doors concert i was treating my cousin to for her birthday -- which i fished out and dried on a kleenex. the look on the usher's face was priceless but we were having trouble not cracking up.

I wear a long-ish scrub top and flip the front up over my chest before I sit down. You have to be careful when you "unfold" it after you've done your business, but this method has saved phones, pens, notes, glasses, you name it!

Been in healthcare for 21 years. You are not alone. I actually have habit to prevent loss of my belongings! LOL!
I developed the habit of a mega-pocket unload onto the nearest safe surface like the jumbo toilet paper holder if the top is flat, prior to sitting (or hovering!). Also, keeping the most important things in your pants pockets (like cell phones or keys) and VERY CAREFULLY lower your pants a bit away from the toilet prior to sitting and pull up A STEP AWAY from the toilet, your cherished belongings may stay safe from the gaping mouth of the Toilet Monster.

To those of you who have lost things in the toilet, hope they fell in BEFORE you "did your business."
