I have heard so many stories about how hard nursing is and all there is to complain about, but does anyone enjoy their work? Please let's hear from someone who is glad they got into nursing and wouldn't change their choice for anything.
I love being a nurse, and I love my job. That is the great thing about nursing, there are so many different fields that you can find something that fits you. I have a friend that loves geriatrics and the nursing home, not my cup of tea, but someone has to do it.
If you aren't happy with your job, look around at other fields to find your niche. Don't leave the field because of a bad experience, keep looking.
I'd heard about the nurses that "eat their own", they are retiring or otherwise going away, and we are replacing them. :)

You took the words right out of my mouth! Excellent response!

After 17 years in clinical nursing (including clinical management), I moved into case management a month ago. Working from home. Flexible hours. My body, mind, and soul are rapidly recovering from all those years of rotating shifts, extremely early mornings (2-3am in dialysis), having someone call my name every five seconds for 12-16 hours straight.....I have time and energy for my kids, the gym, to cook for myself instead of eating on the run....and a life. It has given me back my life, and pulling on those nearly two decades of clinical and people experience, puts me in a position to make a difference in people's lives - in a patient-first, provider-driven mindset. To get people what they need to keep them healthier and prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and disruptions in their lives. To be creative and resourceful in getting those needs met. To fill the cracks in the system.
Do I love my job? Oh GOD yes.
nursing is more than a job....it is an art. so liking the job......no....nursing yes. the job part is all the crap you run into that is mundane, tedious, repetative add nauseum. but, when you have found the right fit for your talents it can be rewarding and fulfilling. focus on what you like and what is the right fit for you......teaching,floor nursing-->med-surg
,labor and delivery:uhoh3: , icu:) , telemetry:) , utilization management:p , administration.:stone ......goes on and on.
find the right fit for you.
I LOVE MY JOB. My hospital is not only all about pt care and how happy pts are with the care but also how Nursing and all employees are happy with there job. We have an overall 98% employee satisfaction rate From GALLOP Survey. That is a nation rating of hospitals. We are a small 25 bed hospital in southeast Iowa. The ER pt satisfatiction rate is 99% again being in the top 10 % in the nation is something to be proud of. There are other great places out there but I am happy with what I have. Right here in Monroe County Iowa.

I have a love/hate relationship with my job, but on the whole, I think that there are more good days than bad. I can't really see myself doing anything else, anyway. :)
