Does anyone love their job?

I have heard so many stories about how hard nursing is and all there is to complain about, but does anyone enjoy their work? Please let's hear from someone who is glad they got into nursing and wouldn't change their choice for anything.

Yeah, I think people love nursing like me, but I don't really like my job with extremely needy patient, need family breathing down my neck, rude people who go into the room when they know you are in a patient's room talking to that patient and some nurse or aide barges in and says hey Lucy, bed 45 needs pain meds and bed 46's family wants to talk with you.

I love nursing.....but the environment and the politics in which I am required to do my job is not always ideal.

Therefore I will:

-complain/vent to my co-workers and husband

-exercise

-have a beer and relax

-treat myself to comfort food

-treat myself to a night out with my husband to dine, dance and have fun

And tell myself that I am trying to do the best I can within the parameters I am given.

And I keep an eye on new job listings daily....

A year ago I was in the most horrible job imaginable. (See "Bait & Switch" thread from last year) I took a leap of faith, and Lord, did it pay off.

I am back in the ER where I belong, and I love, love, love this job! I work with the most awesome people, the ER is big enough to stay busy and varied and never boring, but rarely overwhelming. Most of my pts are pleasant and grateful, if not out and out emergencies. 90% of my work is very rewarding, and rarely do I have a day when I do not learn something.

By far the best part of my job is the staff. We have wonderful supervisors and ultra cool doctors. Many of the nurses have been there for more than 20 years, and most have been there for at least 10. The atmosphere there is one of teamwork and support, and we all help each other out regularly. We have a couple of odd ducks whose personalities don't encourage much comraderie, but the vast majority of us get along really well. There is, naturally, some gossip, but truly less than at any other job I've ever had. We're all too busy.

Through my job I met another horsey nurse, who introduced me to the woman who is now probably my closest friend. Seven weeks ago I married the sweetest, sexiest man in the world, and it was friends from work who made my wedding truly unforgettable. Two friends from work did my wedding photography for free, one of the male techs sang, and two more friends came to the wedding early to decorate my tables with flowers. A total of 17 people made the hour+ drive to come to this wedding, and I have been here only since January.

Even on days I do NOT feel like working, I can honestly say that I love my job, it is the best one I've ever had, and I want to retire from here. Every day I try to remember to say a prayer of thanks for this job that I am so lucky to have. :yelclap:

Congratulations on the marriage!! :D and THANK YOU you have encouraged me after reading so many horrible " I HATE MY JOB" comments in this page. It's been so bad, i've been having second thoughts about nursing school. thank you :thankya:

Hi there! I'm a CNA working in a nursing home and I love it. It's the best job I've ever had. I love taking care of the residents and making their days brighter by showing up and talking to them. They love my smiles, my scrub tops, my chats with them, and the way I take care of them. It can be hard at times, but I do my best. It's so hard; I get so attached to patients. They're like family to me. Their visitors appreciate the care I give to them and say I'm very devoted to my job and take pride in what I do.

It's so hard when we're short of cnas and I have a heavier workload and can't provide the best care for my patients. I have to rush and start putting some residents in before supper so I wouldn't be killing myself during pm care after dinner. I'm a float aide but the unit I mostly work on is hectic. It has patients who's nonstop on the light or screaming for the nurse and tab alarms go off like crazy. I have patients who love playing with the call light and it drives me so crazy that I feel like taking it away for good. (I don't.):stone

:uhoh21: We have a patient on the hectic unit who won't wear a brief despite being a heavy wetter. (She'll rip them off!) So she pees her pants so the aides have to change her pants on rounds. When I come in and she's dry, I put her on the toilet and run the water so she pees. When she has a bm in her wheelchair or bed, she'll smear it and throw it around. The aides call it digging. I always toilet her on first rounds and pm care; especially when she's on the MOM list (Milk of Magnesia).

I'm getting off the subject. I love my job, but it has its not so great moments. Right now, I'm taking a Patient Care Technician course at the community college. (I took my CNA course there as well and I have the same instructor again.) I had my first day of clinical today at the hospital and it was great. Hopefully it doesn't snow tomorrow so clinical isn't postponed. I'm thinking about enrolling in nursing school prereqs. I'm 23, single, and I don't have kids so I should go for it. :)

Go for it while you're still young! :)

I love nursing. Helping others in need is rewarding.
