Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I graduated and became a CNA May 2010 and still to this day have not found a job sue to not having experience and it's getting very frustrated. I have applied EVERYWHERE out here that I could find. Even home health wants you to have atleast 6 months- 1 year experience. I'm starting to feel that I went to school for nothing an on top of that my certificate expires at the end of August and I am not paying to re new it since I can't find a job. Does anyone have any leads out here PLEASE!!!! :(

Have you tried any nursing/staffing agencies? They might be able to help. Manpower is U.S. wide I am sure, if you can try to look up the one in your area. If worst comes to worst, angencies can atleast get you a temp job. I hope I have helped.

Agencies won't help unless you have experience.. :(

You've tried LTCFs right? I thought most of those had a fairly high turnover rate and were hiring pretty often! Good luck, I hope you find something soon!

Yea I have applied at every LTC center we have out here. They want at least 6 months experience but I still applied and with hospitals laying off cna's those ppl go back to LTC.. It just sucks

They want experience? O-o I thought that's where all new CNAs went to GET their experience. Just where do they expect you to go? :( I'm really sorry...

I thought the same thing but in the economy people are staying where they are at.

When you start classes here they tell you CNA is the fastest growing field there is an how easy it is to get a job but there were over 200 ppl in my graduating class an they do 2 a year..

Wow, even the agencies require experience? Have you listed your clinical experience? And when you say "In your area" about how far of a mile range are we talking? Have you applied to every place within 100 miles? Would you be willing to relocate?

Yea even the agencies want you to have experience because they mostly send you to hospitals. And I do 100 miles out because I live in such a big city 100 miles is nothing here. I'm not willing to relocate to another state..

You live in a big city? there should be tons of jobs there. Have you really exhausted every avenue there is? Have you tried online? Have you tried visiting every single place you applied to, talking to the Hiring manager/HR handing them your resume and cover letter? Have you tried to update your resume accordingly? Have you applied over and over to the same places? I live right next to San Francisco and all the CNAs I know got jobs immediately after graduation. I can't picture a big city being hard up for jobs. Maybe it's just California.

Yes I live in a HUGE city but there really are not that many jobs here. People are laying off more than hiring. There are 5 ppl for every 1 job right now.

But yes I have applied to every job more than once and when I call they say next week they are calling for interviews and we go around an around. My resume is up to date since I haven't had a job in the last 3 yrs..

Do you just have your CNA certification? The last post I read about CNAs said a lot of them have their AHA BLS and most of them couldn't find jobs before hand. There is alslo ACLS, PALS, NRP, but AHA BLS is the most important for finding a job.
