Hiya! This is my first post after lurking for a while. Okay, I'm just wondering if anyone has a previous degree, and still decided to take the LPN route, instead of waiting to get into an acc.BSN program? I'm in NYC, and have a BA in English , so therefore I have zero science classes.
It seems like in order for me to apply to a BSN program, I'd have to take two years just for the prereqs, then hope to get into an acc.degree. My goal is to eventually have a BSN, but at the same time, I really need to work and I'm getting older(26 in a few mos), and it seems that several of you are able to work as a LPN/LVN while pursuing your RN. Any and all info/advice is immensely appreciated..blessings! (sorry if this is like the 100th post asking this question...)
All A's! Great job! I had some time on my hands over the summer and bought Medical Terminology for Health Professions by Ann Ehrlich and Carol L. Schroeder, 4th Edition, with the CD and flashcards. Got it online used and cheap because it's an old edition. I especially like the CD. Flashcards fit in my purse.
Hi have a BS degree but choose to do the LPN route. I was accepted into a RN and LPN program and choose to go the LPN route. My reasoning is I heard you learn a lot of skills in LPN school that are not necessarily taught in RN school and BSN. Plus if I hate being a nurse ( which I doubt will be the case) than I will have only spent one year of my life intead of the 2-3. Also I am a single mother and I need to be able to work soon, and do so while pursing my BSN
After reading some of these posts, it occurred to me that most of the people out there, whether you are doing an LPN or RN, LPN-RN, RN-BSN, BSN-MSN, MSN-NP, LPN/BBA-MSN, are looking to climb the coporate latter, in one way or another. Who will be left to do bedside nursing? The LPN's. So, don't worry, about LPN's being phased out. They will need LPN's when all of you have reached your goals as RN managers. See, the circle of success always goes back to the begining.

I have a BA in Humanities/American Studies and an elementary teaching credential. I'm starting LVN school in January. When the time is right, I'll get my RN. The elementary school I worked at closed in May, so I had some time on my hands before nursing school -- I took Microbiology and Sociology at a community college. Thought I'd just get those out of the way because before RN school I'd have to do it anyway. OH LORDY. It had been a ridiculous number of years since I'd had any science...but I made it, B's in both classes. With the time I have now until January, I'm studying medical terminology from a textbook I bought online. Talk about lifelong learner! Instead of "misguided" I'd call myself "well-rounded." Good luck to you! Hey, with a BA and a nursing degree, we'd be great candidates for a quiz show, don't you think?
