Was just wondering if any other School Nurses here taught Health class either with a certified teacher in the room or as a School Nurse Teacher.

not actual health, but limited health topics - family life, dental health, etc as needed. In my state they try to pair the school nurse certificate with a teacher of health certificate at a lot of schools.

Yes, I do also, and not very well. There was no curriculum, I just had to wing it. Now I have a small amount of go to subjects...............

At my last School District part of my duties was teaching the State mandatory HIV class to the 8th graders. I got about 40-60 kids out of 800 from the permission slips. I separated the class in to boys for 2 periods and girls for another 2 periods. I used curriculum from an awesome binder created by The American Red Cross and a school district here in California that is tailored to the middle schooler's and the state requirements for HIV content. I ended up teaching a Sex Ed class, all day, using the material brought from The ARC/Cali. School District because I spent so much time explaining basic sex ed info during the HIV class I realized those kids needed the sex ed class. It was so much fun and I would have loved to do it again, but now I'm a high school nurse and there's already a Health Class requirement, but I don't think they get the same in dept content I taught to my 8th graders. I'm a fairly new school nurse and here in California there is a School Nurse Credential program where in addition to your Master's Degree you can also get a Specialized Authorization to Teach Health and I want to get in to that program so badly, because I feel that I truly have a passion for teaching although I love being a School Nurse and I wouldn't give up my scrubs even if I won the lottery (Keep in mind that I'm young and maybe I would have a different attitude if I had more years under my belt and a family:uhoh3:).
There's no curriculum for me here either but I am jumping in. I am certified as a School Nurse Teacher and so far my classes have gone well. I am having fun and the kids are loving it so it's worth the extra work.
