Doctors cannot do a nurses job

Published

I have been hearing and reading a lot lately about how some Drs are angry that NPs, CRNAs, and other types of nurses "think they are Drs", or think they can do a certain duty of a Dr. I'm sure there are several different reasons for this, some valid and some not.

My intention is not to open a can of worms here, and I am not a nurse so my opinion might not even count for all that much. But I do work with nurses, and in my humble opinion Drs cannot do what a nurse does! They cannot wipe butts with humility one moment, and then respond to a code the next. They cannot deal with being degraded by other staff, family members, and patients.

I just think that nurses have to deal with a LOT of bs, and it's about time that somebody stands up for them and says "No, we cannot do your job, but you can't do OUR job, either!".

Just my :twocents:

If docs were doing was is the nurses jobs they would never have enough time to do their own job. If the nurses were doing the CNA/techs job they would never have enough time to do their own jobs. There are things only docs can do, things only RNs can do, only nurses can do. Going down from MD to aide, yeah everyone can do the duties of the staff below him/her in hierarchy. But going the other way.....not so much. Every role in a hospital is important and necessary for the hospital to run. We need everyone for the patients to get the best care. I can't stand the attitude of "oh that nurse is too good to change those sheets or oh that doc is too good to redress that wound he just came to see." No one is "too good" its just that we all have a job and a full plate as it is. Everyone is busy. It makes it a lot easier if everyone just does their job. When the doc has the time to help you reposition the patient, its a nice thing but they are busy. If the nurse has a little extra time to toilet their own patient great but don't be upset when they are busy and don't have time and need the aide to do it.

And because a person chooses to further their education we should never think that person "thinks they are better" that is just wrong. We should be supporting each other and if someone chose or is choosing to get more education we should be patting them on the back.

I don't think that anyone goes to medical school to "wipe butts with humility".

I don't think anyone goes to nursing school for that reason either. Doesn't mean it is something a nurse or physician isn't willing to do.

So often on this site I hear nurses complaining about certain stereotypes, yet almost as often I read some of those same nurses using equally unfair and untrue stereotypes.

I just hate it when anybody doesn't respect a doctoral or PhD in any field other than medicine. Yes, a doctor of medicine is a doctor..

Doctors are also:

People who hold a PhD in ANY of field

People who hold a doctorate degree in any other field

So is a NP has a doctorates degree.. yes.. they are a REAL doctor! A DOCTOR of NURSING PRACTICE!
