doc who cares

Published

I am having surgery on my right eye on the 3rd of aug. because it is permenently open and it is stating to cause problems (primarally driness) well today the problems increased greatly, my eye started to HURT! I called his assistint and waited. I thought I was waiting for the assistant but about 5o mins after i called and left the message the DOC called. He really took an intrest. he said that it was probably cornial exposure and to wear an eye patch. i just went out on my lunch break and bought some. I am now sitting at my desk with a big white thing over my eye. lol. but i love how the doc took an intrest and called himself. didnt tell the assistent what to say but did it himself. he is awsome.

It is awesome to have a dr. that takes the time to give quality care to his patients. More and more those kind of Doctors seem to becoming less and less. Im happy for you that you have a doctor like that. Good luck to you.

I love that! That's great. I know only a handful of those. And a few of those docs are just starting out, I hope they don't lose "that".

I have one doc who after I had seen him, he called me himself, left a message and talked with me when I called back. He's the first and only doc I have had that has ever done that. And he remembered me after only meeting me a year before I consulted with him and where he met me at. And when I saw him almost a year later, asked me how surgery went (he had refered me to another doctor for surgery). And I can't remember last week, much less a year ago.

Good luck with your surgery! When it comes to caring doctors, sometimes it's just the little things that can make such a difference. In the time it took to make one phone call, your doctor made a top-notch impression that you will not forget.

I was motivated to pursue a healthcare career after receiving great care from doctors and nurses over a long period of time. My parents still talk about meeting my neurosurgeon for the first time (the day I was born) and how great he was. After I was sent home, he wrote his home phone number on his business card in case my parents had emergency issues. We just don't tend to see that level of caring much these days. Your story is a good reminder that we can make a difference even with simple gestures.

You've definitely got a good doctor, and you should consider yourself blessed! At the LTC facility where I work, we actually have an MD who has taped his HOME PHONE number at the nursing stations so if we need him during the night we can call him directly. Boy, I wish all of our docs took that kind of initiative with patient care!

Good luck with your surgery!

It's great to have a doctor like that. I had eye surgery, too, a couple of weeks ago. We had some questions for the doctor, called the doctor, left a message, and he called us back personally and answered all the questions, asked how I was doing, and was just...great. The anesthesiologist I had was great, too...I was really impressed by how much he told me, how he made sure that I asked any questions that I had, etc...

There are some great docs out there! It's nice to be reminded of that every once in a while...
