Do You Wear a Vest? Student Uniforms.

Nursing Students General Students

Published

Hello all!

I am a nursing student at a community college in Florida. We currently wear white scrubs, covered with a white button up vest. Students at the school are hoping for a change of uniform in the upcoming semesters.

Looking for input:

Name, location of your school

Uniform color/ style

Do you wear vests

Thanks for your help everyone!!!

Wow...I feel left out. :o We have no uniforms.....except for the dress policy at our clinicals. scrubs that are not too crazy is sufficient. Maybe its becasue I go to a University instead of a nursing school. I would love to wear a uniform. Tres cool! :)

I attend a community college in central AZ. We wear white scrub pants (any style or brand) and a Barco unisex short-sleeved scrub top in kelly green (pity, I liked that color but will never again be able to see it without being reminded of clinicals). We can wear a plain-colored long sleeved shirt underneath in cold weather. We also have white lab coats which are optional. That's all. The only other thing defining us as students is our name badges provided by the school.

We actually look pretty professional and blend in with all the other nurses on staff (there is one nurse at my clinical site who has kelly green scrubs and I always confuse her with one of the students at first glance). I recently picked up my son at daycare right from the hospital and I felt like the Pied Piper! All the kids were coming up to me, asking if I was a doctor or if I was the person who gave his dad stitches in the ED last week. :chuckle

I don't feel so bad about myself anymore!

At Columbia we've got a choice of white or navy, any combo, with drawstring pants (not scrubs) or this weird mid-calf skirt and a polo. We all have to order them from the same company, through the SON. No vest, thank god. White shoes. I think we don't wear them for the Psych rotation, and for Community it depends on where you are placed. I'll find out this winter!

Um...Please don't take offense to what I said about the University part of my posting. I honestly wanted to know because up here we dont have uniforms in any of the University's around our area. Nursing school is nursing school wherever you go and I'm well aware of that.

Never mind...:chair:

So, they don't call it nursing school in Canada? I go to Kirkhof College of Nursing through Grand Valley State University and we have uniforms. I don't know why you got so offended by what I said. :chair:

Theres the nursing school program at the college and the university, theres no seperate private Nursing school here with its own name. The only thing I was addressing was because our school is not private, maybe that was why we dont have uniforms. I got my back up because of the tone of your post with the UM and no smiley.

Sorry if I got it wrong. :)

Its really hard to "hear" someone with out a smiley face or whatever. :) :)[/quote']

:) :) I apologize, I didn't mean anything by it. :) :)

we aren't allowed to wear scrubs, I guess so we won't be confused with nurses in a code situation

I am attending a four year university in East Texas. We are required to wear white scrubs(top and bottom). The style and brand are optional. The only parameter is that they not be see thru. We have our school's logo embroidered on the left sleeve of each top be it scrub top or lab coat. And of course we have to wear white leather close healed shoes.
