Do YOU enjoy nursing school?

I am a prospective nursing student, waiting on a letter to come in the mail! Wish me luck!

I hear how tedious and gut wrenching Nursing school is. I hear how you cannot and WILL NOT have a social life; or life at that. I hear how extremely difficult it is; almost undoable.

I don't mind not having a social life and comitting my whole life to nursing school.

I don't mind the large amounts of studying.

I don't mind the hard work I will put forth..

But what worries me is that it's near impossible. Obviously it isn't since there are so many nurses and graduating nurses. But students nowadays are making it as if it's impossible to get through.

My question to you is:

Do you [did] enjoy nursing school?

Was it something you couldn't wait to get it over with bc it was just so bad?

Is it doable with a child? [i am a single mom of a 5 month old at the moment]

What are your inputs?

Ugh I hate nursing school!! I'm even a geek who enjoys regular college classes, and I even enjoy studying and learning new things. But NS is sooo stressful, it has sucked all the fun out of that. However i have a very high Gpa an I'm almost done, so I know it will be worth it. But oh my, I sure am gritting my teeth in the mean time!! I also have the countdown app on my phone lol

[color=#2f4f4f]i'd say give me until the end of next week after my first exams to get a good decision going on this one, but so far the projected outlook is good, give or take all the stress that's coming with it. i am going to try to enjoy it the most that i can and make the best of it all.

Well there were quite a few girls who started the program in August and continued to live their social lives as if they didn't have a care in the world...these girls also flunked out at the end of the semester! I offer no sympathy to someone who comes in for a final, sits down next to me and says "I haven't studied at all because I was out partying last night!" and then gets upset because she didn't meet the required test average for that course - which was always the course that she struggled with.....

Anyways, congrats on your (hopeful) acceptance! I love being a nursing student no matter how hard it is! My recommendation is for you to first complete any requirements they give you along with your acceptance letter! 99% of the time when they say if it is not completed and turned in by the stated date you will not start with everyone else, they mean it!

Also, I would recommend you beef up on your Physiology! That is a major life-saver and boost when it comes to Pathophysiology! Good luck! :)

I'm a mom and I really like nursing school!

My kids are a bit older than yours (6 & almost 4) so I have them in school/childcare during the week from 8-4 (many mornings start early than this for me so my husband helps with kid transport). That's my school/study time. I can pretty much fit everything I need to do into those hours. I'm super organized with my time and use every minute of it that I need to in order to get stuff done. That way, when the kids are out of school, I'm in mommy mode - making dinner, taking them to activities, helping with homework, etc. I very, very rarely have to study on weekends although on nights before tests, I may review my notes after the kids are in bed (and of course I study during my daytime hours). By sticking to these hours, I spend about as much time on school as if I was working and I can balance my other obligations, too.

It's hard to feel like you're taking time from your kids but the quality of time is more important that the quantity of time. And nursing school is a gift you're giving to both you and your child. The time taken away from baby now is going to be so worth it when you have a great, rewarding, awesome job!

Congrats to all of you, nursing students! I had read a lot of negative posts about NS sucking the life out of you and I see several burnt out nurses at the hospital where I volunteer, so it's a relief reading all your positive experiences while waiting for that acceptance letter for the BSN.

I especially admire those of you that are making it /made it through NS with kids. I wonder if some of you ladies was pregnant during NS, that could share her experience? :)

I don't think the examination part of nursing school is too stressful, study (not just cram) & figure out how you like to learn best and you'll do well. I do however think clinicals is stressful.

"enjoy" is subjective right? I would say if you want to be a nurse then what difference does it make if you "enjoy" it? You must do it to be a nurse. If you want to cross the road then it doesn't matter how wide or difficult the road is. You just cross it.

Good luck to all of us who are just starting nursing school!!

I start in just two days and have been reading all of the required chapters 2 times and a week before in an attempt to stay ahead of the torrent sure to come. I am also a single mom of a wonderful 9 month old who keeps me very busy. Im surprised and proud to see so many single mothers pursuing nursing it gives me faith!

I still have to work to support her and myself but I'm limiting my schedule to no more than 28 hours per week. It will be hard but I once heard nothing in life worth having comes easy. I am approaching nursing school with two terms tattooed in my mind: "discipline" and "organization" I feel as long as I remember to stay disciplined, meaning leaving no other option but to keep up with reading, clinical assignments, attending every class and being on time. Im already halfway there. Being organized saves so much time I find. You're not wasting time searching for a random paper, instead you took the time to collate/arrange all your necessary documents and thus know exactly where it is and can reference it quickly.

I have had plenty of obstacles preventing me to actually starting my program but now that I'm here(two days people)I am damn sure not going to let anything stop me.

Just remember you can do anything you want to do if you want it bad enough. :)
