Do you wear some type of support for your legs to prevent leg cramps?

Published

Wondering if anyone wears some type of support on their legs. I've been getting some leg cramps in the middle of the night after working and my legs hurt after a couple shifts. If you do, what do you wear and where did you buy them?? TIA

I don't wear anything on my legs, but have found if my shoes aren't good quality I suffer what you describe.

I know a couple people who wear support hose...I think one buys hers at JC Penney, and another one gets them from a scrub/uniform store.

I wear support hose, usually buy in a uniform store (when they have a sale, I buy in bulk! ) They are the best things that I have ever worn! :-)

Cherokee makes socks that are very cushioned and cotton the bottom and the leg is a graduated compression up to the knee. These are great they are about $20.00 a pair but they last forever. No runs like hose.

:) I used to, but what with weight gains and menopause, cannot anymore. Now I rely on orange juice, bananas, veggies, more the natural approach, though have heard that Venostat works well for some. When I wore support stockings, I preferred Hanes.

I am a runner...have no problem running long distances...but standing on my feet for 12 hours is painful. I wear EVERY SHIFT support socks (they are like TED Hose) they are great..wouldn't go to work without them. You can buy them anywhere you get scrubs...stores, online. I like the nursemates brand. Get some! no matter the cost!

quite a few of the scrub techs i work with wear ted hose or jobst stockings, but waking up with leg cramps at night sounds like a vitamin deficiency or electrolyte imbalance. worse yet, restless legs. when was the last time you got some blood work done? maybe a side effect of a medication? worth a look.

I needed them in pregnancy and still use them when I'm on my feet all day. I tend to get very mild vein pain around menstruation. the website Healthy Legs has good prices, always has promotions like 10% off or free shipping, takes returns, and has very good onsite help with fitting. I prefer to buy there instead of in a department/uniform store, because even the "mild" level in a medical hose runs MUCH less and lasts so much longer than any normal support hose. I bought 2 pairs of hose, washed one each night and alternated which I wore, and they lasted me a few months.

I wear knee-high TEDS some of the time, and I'll say they really make a difference in how my feet and legs feel at the end of the day. I should wear them all the time---I have lousy circulation, with both varicose veins AND edema---but sometimes I just don't want to fuss with 'em in the morning, they take a lot of adjusting to make them fit just right.

Regular support hose help too, but they don't work as well for me as the TEDS, and of course they run more easily........TEDS are certainly more expensive, but I've had one pair for 3 years and another for 5, and they're still wearable. :)

What is venostat?

I bought support hose for the last term, unfortunately, I became ill and had to go on a leave of absence so didn't get a lot of experience with them. However, they seemed to work for me the two days I wore them. I also bought a pair of "walkfit" orthotics recently, and I like them, even for just walking around in. Seems like they help my posture!

Has anyone been in nursing for a long time and avoided varicose veins by wearing support stockings? do they really prevent the veins from popping out?

I don't wear hose but do wear runner's socks that have a tigher arch support band. I just get little anklets. I noticed a huge difference in leg fatigue after I started wearing them.
