Do you think this was rude?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I went up to my high school because I needed them to send an official transcript to the college I want to attend. The secretary asked if I had a stamp, and I replied, "no". I said, "well, I thought you all just would send it. I didn't know I needed a stamp" She said, 'no, if you were a student graduating in 2009 we would send it. there is a gas station right down the street. you can go get a stamp from there." Not only that but she wanted me to supply my own envelope which I luckily had in my bag already.

I felt that was a bit rude, and laughed it off. I went and got a stamp but on the way to the second gas station (first one didn't have any) I felt that this was just going too much out of my way and she could have just mailed it off instead of making me leave and come back.

I thought it was a bit rude to make me leave and go to the gas station for a measley stamp.

I guess I'm still not understand where the rudeness comes in. Are you calling her rude for following a policy? A stamp costs money. That would be the same thing as not knowing that a fast food place charges a quarter for refills that are usually free...and then expecting the counter person to pay for your refill.

I'm sure we all have things at our own jobs that others don't understand...but I think it's going a little far to say that someone is RUDE for doing something they are told to do. You can be frustrated with the policy, but I still don't see anything she did or said that was RUDE.

The employees don't set the rules, but they are expected to follow them.

I would have called them first and asked about their procedure. Having requested many transcripts from several different institutions, I know to call first before assuming anything.

I can understand, though, why you were surprised about needing to provide a self-addressed stamped envelope. It's a pretty standard procedure, but you had never done it before.

Don't think I consider her rude for doing her job. But I do think it's a stupid policy. My high school sent my transcripts for free. :/

Did you bring your own ink cartridge?

hehhehe:lol2:

I think it's a little weird. I would say that the policy would stick IF they weren't mailing it for you. Like I could understand it if they were giving you the transcipt to mail yourself instead of them doing it for you. Then again I also understand that high school's only are required to send out transcripts of the students graduating that year. For example a student who graduated in 07 wouldn't get their transcript free because they aren't a student there, versus a student who graduated this year. I feel like they would provide that stuff if they were mailing it out for you. The reason why I find it weird is because usually when a college wants it sent from the high school they want it in those special high school envelopes, not just an envelope someone wrote the address on.

As others have said, she wasn't being rude she was doing her job but the policy is kind of dumb.

I thought a OFFICIAL transcript had to be sealed in a envelope? I honestly think if you are paying a fee then it should include a stamp/envelope

I guess what suprises me is that they don't have their own postage meter in house because I'm sure they send out a ton of mail. If they did they could have just asked you for extra 50 or 60 cents and you wouldn't have been bothered. I wonder too why they don't put that you need these items on the form you have to fill out for the transfer. It sounds like a major pain in the but what can you do.

I don't think what was said was rude, but she may have indeed been a bit rude in her delivery. I've always expected that I would have to send my own transcripts from my high school and former college to anyone who was requesting them.

I've requested that they be sent to me and then I gather and send them in their little sealed envelopes myself. I guess I never thought about what would happen if I would pick them up in person (not an option for me--just saying).

If you're paying a processing fee, it should include everything. Period. The end.

Maybe she asked this of you because you were there in person. It might be interesting to have a former classmate call and ask what needs to be done to have a transcript sent and see if only the fee is mentioned or if they are also asked to furnish a stamp and envelope.

Does seem like the fee should include the cost of mailing the transcript.

wow, thats silly. I went to have to transcripts sent from my high school to ASU, and all I did was fill out a form & give them $3. They ought to have supplied the envelope & stamp!

Why does everyone assume there is always a fee? I graduated from high school 30 years ago and I can still get a transcript free. I also get free transcript service from the school where I got a BS and the school where I got my MS. I agree the clerk was not being rude but that is one cheapskate school district.
