In most cases I restrain myself from passing a judgement on obsessive eaters.
In recent weeks though, I have become severely agitated when I go to my classroom which has a sign right on the door reading "NO FOOD OR DRINK" and people insist on bringing their dinner or their snacks in and eating them in front of everyone while people are trying to do their work and socializing while they eat. The classroom should not be treated like their living room.
They almost seem to be testing their limits. The teacher lets them get away with it and the school has ignored the complaint I sent to them.
I find the sound of them chewing their food revolting, offensive and distracting. Sometimes the sound of the food sloshing inside their mouths gives me chills down my spine.
The cafeteria is just right in walking distance, a place where if I see them eating, I refrain from evaluating them.
They also have option to take their food outside, a place where I can easily mind my own business.
Not only do people insist on bringing food into class but also continue to eat for extended periods of time. They go get more food after they finish what they have.
Unless it's a small class with a mutual agreement about food, eating in front of people is disgusting and disrespectful.
Wooh...You KNOW I was merely pointing out they OP isn't yelling and no you can express your opinion just like the OP as long as it is within the TOS and on topic. You know the drill....As per the TOS...So you're saying it might be irrational to repeatedly call it rude behavior? But I'm sure OP would NEVER do anything that some might irrationally find to be rude.

Gosh, with compassion levels like this, I just can't wait to see YOU as a nurse.....
I fail to see how this has anything to do with being compassionate as a nurse. These are different environments, and sometimes rules are there that people don't necessarily like because they're for a greater good. We're all on equal footing in nursing school. I'm not better than you, you're not better than me. I don't have a responsibility, legal, ethical, or moral, to take care of your needs or wants. I'm trying to learn, and eating hinders that. That could make the difference between an A and a B or passing and failing. Eating in breaks solves both issues. There's no distraction in the classroom, and I wouldn't be bothered at all.
Ah, another poster that flees from the scene when everyone essentially disagrees with what you say. As people have mentioned, theory classes are typically 4-5 hours long with few breaks. Got a problem with people eating food? Choose a different major where people don't have to multitask.Lol. I'm quoting this for posterity sake. How utterly ridiculous and immature. I will go ahead and assume right now you will probably never participate in a group project or study session that lasts for several hours.
You're welcome to quote my post. I'm not ashamed of what I've said, and I would say it again to your face in person. I didn't flee the scene. I had other affairs to attend to, and checking here everyday is not on the top of my priority list, especially when I was not directly talking to you. I answered the original poster's question of whether I thought eating in the classroom was room.
I understand that theory classes are 4-5 hours long. You must think that I either did not attend class or that somehow my classes were fundamentally different. We had a strict no eating policy (or drinks besides water) in the classroom. We were in class for 50 minutes with 10 minutes for a break every hour. Class was the usual (8-5). Again, I don't have any issues with people eating food in and of itself. In a learning environment, there are multiple different people who get distracted from the professor for various different issues (one of them is noise from eating or the noxious odors). If I'm having to pay attention to the professor, it's not your right to distract me.
You should be provided with breaks that provide ample time to use the bathroom and eat a snack. I also find tapping, constantly fidgeting, cellphones constantly vibrating, etc. annoying and distracting. I still stand by that. I don't think that I've been 'utterly ridiculous or immature'. Believe it or not, I have participated in group projects and study sessions that lasted for hours. Suprisingly, this is a different situation and environment than if a professor is speaking and I'm trying to listen to what they say because it may be on an exam that can permanently alter my future. I'm sorry if I've asked others not to crinkle bags so I can hear.

Lets start with the first one. You were lucky in that you received a break every 50 minutes. A lot of classes are not as lucky as you. Some of us don't get a break until almost the 2 hour mark.
Onto the second. Constantly fidgeting. I myself have ADHD and do not take my medication because it causes me to have bouts of cough and without food, causes severe nausea. So, fidgeting is going to happen. If fidgeting bothers you, here's a hint: Sit in the front. What a shock. You won't see people fidget.
I find it rude that you find eating in a class rude. How the world goes round and round. :)

In these classes of 3 or 4 hours or 8 hours, I have had those several times. I have never gotten hungry or had other discomforts during these becase I always had teachers that gave us ample break time.
I get concerned when these people say they don't get enough breaktime to eat even if they're diabetics or hypoglycenics or just get starved.
It sounds like the teachers are cold and uncompromising. I don't know if it's from a busy schedule they might have but something should be done about it. I could always negotiate with my teacher if I was having a problem in class.
In one class we were told, "You are adults and you can leave the classroom for coffee or whatever else you need at your own disgretion." I also ended up with a full-time job at the end of this class so it was not just some money-making thing for them.
OP,Please feel free to disagree with us as much as you want to but could you please not yell at us? Thank you.
I am not sure what this is referring to. If this is about the large print I use, this is only so people don't have to strain their eyes. I am sometimes long-winded. I always assume that the readers might be tired. I feel like the large print is easier to read.
Have you asked these people why they are always eating in class. Maybe they get hypoglycemic if they don't eat. Maybe they just left work and didn't get to eat. Maybe they have a medical condition and need to eat to take medication. Maybe they are just hungry. I'm sure you eat in other places besides the dining room all the time.
This is the kind of class where people are permitted to use their own judegement to decide when they should leave to go eat or whatever else they have to do. This classroom is one where one person might be doing a termpaper and another might be taking an exam and another might be on the web and another might be getting help from the teacher and so forth and so on. The rules are set up so people are supposed to eat in the cafeteria and you can leave with no justification. It is not a lecture class.
We don't have that rule in class only in our lab. We are encouraged to bring healthy snacks to eat to keep our blood sugar steady and focused in class. If we aren't hungry and desperately waiting for a break to eat, we learn more efficiently. Efficiency is the name of the game in nursing school. Work smarter not harder
Some of these people are eating junk food and when one bag in gone they go get more.
I'm not sure I follow. I thought you said they were eating during lecture, but now you say that you are trying to study. Are you studying during lecture? Are you just in there to study and people come in to also study (and eat?). If that's the case, remove yourself from the space and go to the library, or invest in some really great ear plugs.
The point is they were eating when I am trying to focus on work that my grade depends on. If it was a term paper, exam or lecture it's all the same thing.

I think as long as we are polite and respectful to each other...large font or not large font...is all that matters. I have a cousin that types in ALL caps on FB I have told her and told her yet she continues. I figure Ok and lover her the same...maybe she thinks we can't hear her....LOL
I merely wanted to point out that although the OP uses a larger font it is NOT shouting as it is NOT in all caps.
