Do you still perform skin testing prior to giving IV antibiotic?

I was wondering if it is still a practice to do skin test prior to administration of antibiotics in the hospital that you're working or if it's still effective?

I have given a skin test injection to test for hypersensitivity prior to Iron Dextran and Amphotericin.

Yes we do practice in dubai, giving intra dermal test dose for any antibiotic that ordered for IV. AFTER 30 mins of test dose, if there is no allergic reactions, then the iv dose to be given.

I have heard of it. It isn't helpful because an allergic reaction isn't likely with the first dose. It is the subsequent dose that a patient receives that will elicit a reaction.
