Do you procrastrinate? Do you wish you have people to REALLY review with?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello! Do you find yourself procrastinating on reviewing for the NCLEX? Do you want people to share review resources with? Do you want to study in silence yet NOT be alone? Do you want to be with people who are just like you- reviewing for the NCLEX?

Hello! My name is Em-em and this is NOT (lol) a sales pitch. I live in the 90027 area near Children's hospital & Kaiser Permanente and I am trying to form a 5-6head group to study with in a public place (like sbucks, cofeebean, borders etc).

I like to study in silence, but I have tried this method and have found it to be beneficial for me. For my board exam in my home country, I reviewed with 2 people I did not know. We would meet up in a coffee place and study for hours and allot "break times" for questions someone in the group might have an answer for. We shared resources (and costs) on some review materials like an online dictionary that we ALL used. We shared flash cards, book lights and all.

Going to Sbucks (and the like) and staying there for hours would cost a lot. Especially if you would sit there and feel stupid after being alone for 30 minutes. Then! you'd start using your cellphone to call friends (distraction) and when you get back home you realize that you didn't accomplish anything. If we stay there as a group, we could buy a cup of coffee to last us the whole time we are at Sbucks(or wherever) and bring out packed lunch, eat it there without getting intimidated. Or we could go for lunch out in groups without worrying that there's not going to be an available chair at Sbucks when we get back because our group mates are going to be there saving chairs for us. Sure you could bring your laptop or your cellphone- but knowing that you are in a study group would somehow prevent you from playing around too much.

Studying alone at home with your bed enticing you to sleep or your phone always ringing, or just seeing things unorganized and you'd want to take care of them first before you study, going online for a "short" while and actually staying in front of the computer the whole day - are all not very helpful.

It's always fun to have a review group especially when you have people who seriously WANT to study and somehow can't find studying alone to be effective.

I don't know where this would lead me, but I hope something good will come out of this post. I have this thread anyone wants to form a study group in LA?

I posted the the other day and I am speaking with a potential study group mate. We live close by each other.

if you are near the 90026, 90027 area

if you would like to review for the NCLEX-RN

and would like to join our group, please send me a private message.

Thank you!

P.S.

I've had suggestions about studying in someone's house or apt. That would be comfortable,

but since we don't know each other, for now I don't think that will be a good idea=)

My college had conference rooms in the libraries that students could reserve for group study sessions. I always wondered why nobody I knew ever took advantage of them. You could use one of these rooms and everyone could bring their own refreshments. I think these rooms would offer less distractions than a public meeting place.

I really wish I was living close to you. I am in need of the study buddy in Greensboro, NC.

I always joked about having a video conference study group. lol. My friends and I were thinking about it. They were then the strangers I reviewed with for my local board exam in Asia. The thing is, I live here in California and the other one lives in Asia. The other one is in New York. Time difference won't allow us to do it. Goodluck on your NCLEX review=)

Thank you very much for this information=) Are college conference rooms open to non-students? I live close by LACC, but I am not a student.

study group has been effective for me when I was back in nursing school..it just really motivates you and other classmates to study really hard.i think its a really good idea :)
