I'm at the elementary level so we don't really have spirit week, but when I subbed in the HS, I recall the nurses did a reserved version - lots of school spirit with sweatshirts and t-shirts, and occasional fun makeup or perhaps "crazy hair" (one of the nurses had long hair that she wore in braids, so she would do the Pippi Longstocking thing), but nothing that might get in the way of providing care.
We have spirit weeks maybe twice a year. What my school does is jeans and a type of shirt day as a fundraiser. Sometimes its a jersey, sometimes its a fall shirt, etc. I do participate in those. We are doing a book character parade on Thursday where I am dressing up as a cow. I will wear the cow costume for the parade and then I will take it off with my scrubs underneath for the rest of the day.
I always go along with spirit/Pep days which are usually jeans and school themed apparel. For special days/weeks, like Homecoming or "I hate Winter" - I do a scaled back version. Backwards day is easy with scrubs - so is Mismatched day. Crazy hair day is fun. For Halloween, I have an orange tshirt with a black pumpkin on it that I wear with jeans or black scrubs. Pajama days I usually do "lounge wear" type stuff. Sweats and a relaxed T or sweatshirt. Not a full on pj, but much less casual than jeans. The only issue I've ever ran into is if I have to run an unexpected errand or something after work LOL!

Just curious what other school nurses do. Teachers and other staff usually dress up for spirit week and the holidays. I don't mind wearing Team spirit wear (like school name shirt or college sports, etc) and jeans or scrub pants. I don't mind wearing certain colors for the day such as red for Drug Awareness or mismatched socks. I'll rock an ugly sweater but I just cannot bring myself to wear pajamas for pajama day. I just don't feel professional wearing pajamas. I'm always worried what if something major happened and here's the nurse is in her pj's in front of the parents, paramedics, or heaven forbid on the news. I know it would be a rare thing.
I love seeing other people in Halloween costumes and I have nothing against those but they aren't comfortable and I can't ever decide what to even dress up as and I just worry again if there's a serious situation how it would look.
I'm not judging anyone that does because I wish I could just let my guard down and enjoy myself more. I'm just wondering if I'm the only one that feels this way or if I'm overthinking it. LOL!
